I have a 2002 Model and have always had the feel of soft braking in the truck. I had to replace four rotors and pads at 42K miles. Had brakes redone and needed "fixing" after another 12K miles which was done at no cost, but the problem I believe is still there. As an engineer, and mfg. "guy" my process sense is telling me that this is a much larger issue than just one vechile. Does anyone out there have any suggestions to correct and fix the problem for good? Please advise, thanks in advance

I'm knew to this site, but my 03 has been through countless brakes/pads. I'm told that 20% braking is done on rear and 80% is done on front. The rear brakes may work more if you have a load in the back or going down a steep hill.
The inside rear pads will wear out faster then the outside rear ones at a ratio 3:1.
It is a frustrating problem that I don't think Chevrolet can deal with. That's why I believe they put drum brakes back in. Sound like poor design to me, but I know of several people that have had the same problem/complaint

the 80-20 (which is normal for FWD) brake ratio is a little inaccurate. Its more like 60-40 on your truck. The fact that your pads are wearing prematurely depends a lot on your driving style. the fact that one pad is wearing more than the other is one of 2 things: A bad (sticking) caliper or hose(clogged).

99% of the time it is a wheel speed sensor that causes this reaction or a failing wheel brg. witch throws the sensor off. and yea thier parking brake setup blows. good luck

I know from experience from owning a few GM cars.. And other manufacturers do the same... I know it sucks but you have to buy the pads and rotors from the dealer.. Other pads may work better but gm uses a specific rotor and brand combination that used together will not sqeal unless they are worn out.. If you mix and match between gm and another brand they will always squeal.. no grease or lube will help... its the composition in the materials that they use

I just purchased a 2003 Yukon xl Denali, used, with 31,000 miles. It is a lovely vehicle. The problem is that it shudders on light acceleration. Has there been a recall or is this an unfixable problem? This vehicle has awd which I assume all Denalis have--

Another observation, I also have a 2002 Silverado 2500 HD, 6 speed stick powered by the 8.1 L a.k.a.the 496 c.i. The "emergency" brake sucks, and has an active recall from G.M. after the recall not much better. in fact now the brake won't fully return and will burn up if I use it. I've always loved chevy, but when you pay $30,000 to $80,000 for a G.M. truck it better be pretty damn good. I'm rethinking the union made American thing!!p.s.other problems also to manyto list hear.

Don't expect GM to do anything to correct this problem. I am a GM certified mechanic and an ASE Master Tech. I first saw this problem in 99 when the new body style came out. And when it happened in my 01 GMC (can't count how many times we tried to fix it)they agreed to buy it back. That very day the pedel went to the floor at a stop sign and it was totaled. The GM rep. told me. "I don't see how thats our fault. Your just going to have to deal with it." I was working for Hendrick Chevorlet at the time. I won't work for a company that refuses to back it's product. I will never work at another GM dealer or buy a new GM product again.

Does it vibrate or hesitate? I just bought an 04 with 39,000 miles and it seems to hesitate on light acceleration...it feels like it changes gears almost immediately upon giving it gas.

I have a 2003 Avalanche 43000 miles pads are half worn out and the rotors are damaged due to rust. I have never seen rust this bad chips the size of your thumb are flaking off and getting between the pads and rotors and eating the rotors up. I have had several phone calls with GM and gotten no where. I know this is not normal that there is a design issue. With the last response I got my next truck with be a Ford or Tundra. NO MORE GM'S FOR ME.
