I have a 2003 Pilot, about a year ago I started experiencing the following.
The Pilot would not start. It would just click as if the starter silnoid was bad, or sometimes it would not even click as if the battery was dead. I had battery and alternator tested and both checked ok. I replaced the battery terminals clamps and it seemed that problem was solved, but 2 months later the same problem habppen again. A simple boost and the Pilot started and continued to start for another 3 to 4 months and problem occured again. Had battery and Alternator checked and both checked ok. Has anybody experenced this?

I am thinking about buying a new 2006 or a used 2005 Honda Pilot. Would any of you recommend buying one? I have done research and they seem to be one of the safest SUV's and one of the best on gas mileage. I am concerned to buy one after reading all these postings. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I would recommend you buy one. They are great SUVs. My only suggestion, get an extended warranty. Most of the issues raised on here seem to be happening after 40,000 miles or so.

Our 2003 Pilot (54K miles) has had harsh and erratic shifting lately, especially when driving around 45-50 mph. Our gas mileage has dropped significantly recently, and tonight our D started flashing. Turned the car off, then back on and it quit flashing. Did you ever find out anything? If so, please respond or email [email protected]

I have a 2003 Honda Pilot with almost 80K miles and I noticed a gurgling noise when putting on the brake and turning right. It only happened when the air conditioning was on so the dealership had a hard time replicating it. When they did, they said it was a clog in the air conditioning water hose and they unclogged it. Now the car smells like mold. The dealership offered to pull up the carpeting and clean it out for $500. The mold smell causes anyone who rides in the vehicle to cough after about 25 minutes.

Purchased a 2006 Pilot on June 10th. Was unable to drive before purchase as they had to bring it from another dealership and then had titled it to me before giving me the keys. As we drove out of the dealership we noticed a noise that sounded like a tractor trailer bearing down on us but there was no truck around. The next day my husband noticed a noise and we took it back to the dealer ship and they said "No problem" . My husband has ascertained that when driving in 1500-1800 RPMs we get a loud vibration like a resonance tendancy. The Honda dealership has now heard it (said it sounded like a helicopter) but can't fix it. They first replaced the rear ball bearings. Now they don't know what to do and I have a defective "NEW" car. Have any of you noticed a really loud noise? It builds to a very loud noise and then cuts out when you increase the RPMs.

Has anyone had any problems with the 2nd row airconditioner and DVD player? My 2003 honda pilot has about 80,000 miles on it. The DVD player won't show a picture and it has a loud humming sound. The back AC died on me without warning. My Dad checked the fuses and they are fine.
Any advice and insight will be greatly appreciated as I can not afford a $300.00 examination at PEP Boys.
Our 2003 Pilot had the rear vent AC go out at 44K. They had to replace a resistor on a circuit board that drives the supplemental fan, cost about $200.

Gail S here again. The same thing happened again (3mos later) to my 04 pilot. Stopped the car which had been running fine, went to restart and it would only click. After a very quick jump start it is running fine again. Why???

regarding the pilot upshifting only at 3500 rpm, my 2004 shifts like a dream...best of two dozen cars I've owned. Try this experiment. From a stop accelerate slowly with a very light gas pedal. Let off on the gas pedal at 2500 rpm. The tranny should smoothly upshift. Do the same in 2nd gear. If your Pilot fails this test something is very wrong.

The problem is the resistor for the rear ac fan is blown. Its still $200 from honda if you install it yourself. easy install just take the panel off near the gas pedal and look for the part to replace. Its a known problem with hondas pilot.

I have a 2004 honda pilot -Please help - my battery went dead and now I have no radio, clock, etc. It says "code" and after reading the manual, it was supposed to be reset after 3 days. It has been a week and still no change. Anyone else had this problem?? Maybe the dealership has codes??

We purchase our 2006 Honda Pilot the end of Feb. 2006. When you get around 35 or 55 mph it makes a loud noise and then cuts out just like you described. I took it to the dealership and they say it is the eco vibration through the stereo system. It does it whether to stereo is on or not. We do not agree! The sound can be very annoying on trips.

I purchased a Pilot '06 this July and have experienced problems with my brakes. The brake pedal can be high and firm one day or low and mushy the next day or within minutes of driving. I don't know what distance it will take me to stop the vehicle. I took the Pilot back three times to the dealer, who says every vehicle has its own characteristics. I wonder if he would like to be driving around with this characteristic?
The service manager and dealership look at me like I'm some kind of space alien explaining this problem. Each time I took it back, no one physically looked at any of the mechanics of the brakes. One technician took it for a 5 minute drive and said the brakes are good and released the Pilot back to me.
Has anyone experienced brake problems in a '06 Pilot?

Can you go in to any more detail on replacing the resistor your self? I need it done and would like to save money by doing it myself. Thanks,
Greg

My 2003 Pilot was jerky and hersitated in May of 2005 and the dealer said it was a dirty EGR valve. I have continued to have the same problem and took it in this week and now they are telling me that I need a new transmission. You need to get your transmission checked asap.

My rear air went out recently too!
My rear air also stopped working, problem being the power transistor-cost $233.71 + labour. Also my driver side heated seat overheats, requires seat heater-cost $225.82-labour $118.50.I have a '03 Pilot with an extended Honda warranty, but the dealer is not sure if these items are covered because the wording is too ambigous!HE has to check with the head office.

same model/year i had, try pumping once the gas pedal before stopping or shutting the engine, do this in a fast way w/c immidiately after relasing your feet on the gad pedal turn your keys to shut engine.
if above mentioned wont work, try using a higher grade gasoline a month before your next oil change.

you can try doing this, start engine, run your air conditioner, open the tailgate then spray a half can of lysol, scent of your choice, on the inlet vent (open the hood)located below your winshield outside after 30 secs close the tailgate and hood, turn engine off, replace your cabin air filter located beheind the glovebox/compartment.
