My 2003 Pilot is having the same battery issue. 5 minutes with the light or radio on and it wont start. a jump brings it back to normal. Has anyone repaced with a battery that solves this issue( if so what battery did you get) or do we have some other sort of electrical problem? The battery that is the Delphi 80D26L. I am hoping this is just a battery issue and not an electrical defect.
i, too am having a problem with my '03 pilot and the battery. today was the first time it happened. tried to start the car and it made an awful sound and the instrument panels were twitching like they were having a seizure.we jumped the car and surprised that it worked b/c the battery indicator said the battery was fine, but now a half hour later and it won't start again. of course the warranty is over and i'm worried. have you gotten any info on this?

I work at the Honda plant here that produces Pilots for export to the US and I assure you these are first quality fully inspected vehicles. Generally problems with Honda products occur ONLY after significant abuse or operator ERROR. The pilot is not designed to be a racecar, and the transmission is designed to operate automatically. If you operated the Pilot correctly you will have no problems.

I had the blink "D" after my 75k service. I looked in the Pilot manual and it said that if it blinks, there is concern about the transmission. Take it to the dealer. Well, when I turned off the car and came back to it later, the light did not blink. Later in the week, I traveled 1000 miles to Colorado from Texas and the light started blinking west of Denver in a 6% grade declining I-70. I was thinking, crap, I should have taken it in. Well, I stopped for caffeine and when I turned the Pilot back on, the "D" light was not blinking...whew. I completed my trip back to Texas with out incident and the "D" light has not come back on.
Side note:
Pilot is experience slight hesitation while cruising. Mechanic said it could be from bad gas and the intake manifold was getting clogged. he cleaned it out and it slightly improved the hesitation. I was impressed with the 20-23 mpg on the trip.

Purchased a 2006 Pilot on June 10th. Was unable to drive before purchase as they had to bring it from another dealership and then had titled it to me before giving me the keys. As we drove out of the dealership we noticed a noise that sounded like a tractor trailer bearing down on us but there was no truck around. The next day my husband noticed a noise and we took it back to the dealer ship and they said "No problem" . My husband has ascertained that when driving in 1500-1800 RPMs we get a loud vibration like a resonance tendancy. The Honda dealership has now heard it (said it sounded like a helicopter) but can't fix it. They first replaced the rear ball bearings. Now they don't know what to do and I have a defective "NEW" car. Have any of you noticed a really loud noise? It builds to a very loud noise and then cuts out when you increase the RPMs.
We have a 03 Pilot ours did the same thing. The honda dealer had no idea what it was. They ended up changing out the whole exhaust system this quietened it. Your problem sounds like the same problem.

Same issue just happened 5 August 2006. Drive light blinking while pulling light (800 lb) trailer. Went off after an engine restart. Dealer now says it's due to a failed pressure switch in 4th (D) gear. Wants $367 for diagnosis and repair. I've escalated to American Honda. Don't like the sound of this in light of a the 2nd gear recall fix from 2004.

Any update on the blinking D? See my previous post/reply about the diagnosed "failed pressure switch" for 4th (D) gear. Cost $370 to diagnose and repair. Escalated to American Honda to pay for this.

I'm glad I decided to do some looking before I took our '04 Pilot in. It just started the battery problem this week (clicking, flickering dashboard, it won't turn over at all)- with about 65,000 miles on it. It appears the quickest fix is a jump, no? Possibly replacing the battery. Has anyone had to do any other repairs to fix this problem? And does replacing the battery seem to fix it competely?

Just go down to Peb Boys, buy a battery and put it in. Stay away from the dealer. Your battery is a few years old and you 65,000 miles on it, and it gets pretty hot in OK, which is hard on batteries. The battery will cost about $65 and will probably make the problem go away. ALL new car manufactures use the cheapest batteries available, and even the best batteries are only good for a few years unless you get lucky.

Also have the same problem with my '06 Pilot 2wd LX, anyone got a fix yet? I haven't been able to show to the Honda mechanic as it didn't perform for him.

My 2003 Honda Pilot is having some A/C problems. It has 43,000 miles on it. I've started having problems last week. The A/C works for short periods of time, depending on the speed that you are going. SHort trips(like 4 miles) it works great anything more than that it goes out. Plus, for the last month when I park the car I started hearing a loud fan running on it. Hubby seems to think it may have something to do with the engine.I am wondering if you Honda acted crazy like that. I also replaced the battery 4 weeks ago at the dealership.
Richard Machold wrote:
The AC compressor on our 2003 Pilot has literally disintegrated, causing metal fragments to create further damage to other components. I understand this has been a common problem among CRVs, but my dealer says this is the first time he has seen it on a Pilot. The total repair job is around $3,000. American Honda is agreeing to cover 25% of the parts, even though we did not purchase the extended warranty. A friend had this happen to his CRV, and they covered 1/2 of the repair. Please advise if this has happened to you or if you have heard of similar instances with the 2003 Pilot.

I have a 2005 Pilot. On the way home from a long trip @325miles at this point, I had my cruise on and was pulling into a rest stop. When we parked we noticed that the right directional was staying on and the windshield wipers, both front and rear went halfway up and the air shut down. The windshield wipers were not in use at the time. The problem happend on and off a few times when we were driving.
Anyone else with this problem. I actually saw someone with the same problem in another forum but no one had responded.

Anyone ever follow up on the blinking "D" problem? I have an appt. at the dealer soon and don't want to be told I need a new transmission. Thanks.

I just bought a 2006 Pilot 2WD EX. Everything is fine except I cannot shift down to D3 or second and first gear so when I am on a big downhill run I have to constantly step on the brakes. I have called the dealer and they said they will research it. Does anyone have a clue what is wrong with this car? Should I be very worried?
I just purchased the same vehicle and faced the same problem. Called the dealer and got little satisfaction. I go down a long hill each morning when leaving for work. To downshift to D2, one must slide his hand up the shifter stalk toward the steering column, pull the stalk slightly towards one, and then pull the stalk downwards to D2. It takes a little practice, but it can be done. Saves a great deal on the brakes. I would prefer the shifter on the floor console like my wife's new Accord. One must admit, the Pilot is a very fine piece of machinery...I moved up from a Ford Escape. It lost half its value in 3 years with only 18,000 miles on it. I'm sticking with Honda from now on! The quality (Just check the interiors of Chrysler, GM, and Ford: so cheap and cheesy!) of finish in the Honda is outstanding.

I have a 2003 Honda Pilot. The 2 side Back brake lights are not coming on when I press the brake. The Brake light on top of the tail gate is however turning on when I press the brake pedal. I even changed out the 2 brake light bulbs and still doesnt work. If anyone had a similar problem and took care of it please let me know what was done to take care of the problem. Thanks in Advance for taking time to post reply.

(Quote M.Bibby0I have had the same problem with my 06 Pilot purchased in Aug 06. The LX model has a nosie reduction unit that sends a signal to the rear speakers to cancel out the noise of the engine switching from 6 to 3 cylinders. The dealer has changed the unit but it is still making the noise. I am going to contact them and Honda directly as this seems like a design flaw.

Have you checked the fuse yet. I had that problem when towing a boat at night. Plugged the trailer lights in and the fuse blew when I turned my headlights on. Only the tail lights and dash lights went out.

My Dash lights is okay. I was trying to find fuse for Tail lights and I dont see one for tail lights in the manual. So I checked all of them in the fuse box under the hood and all of them are fine. Not sure where I can find fuse for the tail lights.
Thanks for the input.

Did you find out what the problem was for you? We bought a used 2003 Pilot and have the same problem and would like to know what it might be. Thanks!
