Yes, I am taking mine back in for the 4th time,, they thought it was the fuel injectory,, which has been flushed a few times... it seems to run fine, but the remote start is inoperational when it is on.. and it is DECEMBER in Michigan..

I just read through all of the posts, this comment is in regards to everyone who is experiencing engine light problems with the 2.4L engine. If you read your owners manual, the recommended fuel for this engine is 91 octane or higher, I own a 1008 HHR LT@ with a 2.4L mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. I'm running a synthetic organic blend oil, have replaced the stock air filtration with a cgs cold air injection system, replaced the stock plugs with E-plugs, lowered the rear end 1 1/2 inches. I only run Sunoco 91 or 93 octane and have 31,662 miles and have never experienced any problems with the engine light or rough idle or poor performance, daily drives of 10 t0 50 miles i get an average of 39 mpg on the highway at 65 -70 mph i average 38.5 mpg. the big secret is to run th proper octane fuel in the engine!!!!! running lower octanes will create misfires, rough idle, poor perfomance, and poor fuel mileage. The only other modification I plan on making to my HHR is a Borla flow through exhaust, whcih not only boosts the horsepower but also increases fuel mileage. The stock air filtration system and the stock exhaust rob the engine of it's true performance and fuel mileage capabilities. Also don't trust the driver's information center (D.I.C.) DIC ON THE DASH, when you reach 65% oil life change your oilat this point gas mileage begins to go down drastically. Also calculate your mileage manually because yu will find that the DIC is giving you all-round driving mpg and is usually one to three miles to the gallon different than what you are actually getting.

Run the proper octane recommended in the owner's manual and your problems will be solved, the dealer is just wasting your time and money by flushing the injection system. You can do that yourself with a bottle of fuel ssyste, additve for 4.00 every 5,000 miles.even thoguh the maual does'nt explicitely state it will cause ngine problems running lower octane that what is recommended they do state that if you run the lower octane and experience problems to increase the octane to the recommnded fuel, any time you have poor performance eventually it will damage the engine and running the 91 octane fuel which is recommended is a lot cheaper than replacing an engine,

another correction mine is a 2008 hhr LT2 not a 1008, also if anyone is looking for answers go to www.chevyhhr.net and if you are looking for any aftermarket parts go to www.hhrboutique.com , Bill and Linda who own the boutique are more than willing to help answer any questions you may have about your hhr, and why your performance is poor. Everything as far as aftermarket parts and equipment, that I have done to my HHR has come from HHR Boutique I have spent less than $1500 in order to boost my mileage and performance, they also have a full compliment of comestic parts such as chrome kits, bras, performance parts, exhaist systems, etc just for HHR's

"but manual says will run on 87 octane with reduced performance but doesn't indicate problems."
Common sense Ken, reduced performance equals engine problems if you have read your owners manual and the specifications of the 2.4L engine you will find out IT IS a High output engine (H.O.) or as in the old days high performance and anytime you do not follow the recommended octane and run lower octane, you will not only have reduced performance but will also experience engine problems because the engine is NOT operating at it's optimum performance levels and the computer picks up every little hiccup, it's up yo you but my way of thinking is I can put alot of hi-octane fuel in for the price of replacing or rebuilding an engine, also if you still have a warranty and you are not running the recommended fuel, GM Does Not have to honor your warranty, and they have the equipment to know exactly what the octane in your tank is at the time the engine went south!!!!!!!!!!

Been dealing with the Check Engine light since December 2010. I own a 2009 Chevy HHR, bought brand new. Currently 31500 miles on it. Taking it back for the fourth time. Code reads Misfire #4. Had their recommended fuel service, air filter change. This is a nice reasonably priced car. But, the problems are with the check engine light are total BS.

Update. Well they fixed my check engine light issue finally. The problem was the fuel trim cycle was not fully calibrated correctly. Anytime you filled the car up with more than 3 gallons of gas and drive the car less than 7 miles it would preform a check on the fuel trim and it took 7 miles or more to complete the cycle without turning the key off.

My dealership had to contact GM Engineers to figure this out.

My car is a 2009 Chevy HHR LS with E85.

I have an 06 HHR LT. I have the same problem with the engine light coming on. But I have noticed that when the coolant stops showing a temp and the temp gauge stops working not long after that engine light will come on. And when it rains the passenger side floods with water. I bought the car used from a dealership. Boy do I ever regret this purchase. Does any have any advice?

My 07 HHR LS just had the check engine light come on - was a low temp coolant code - so replaced thermostat - so far so good - sounds like maybe you have thermostat issues too.
Unfortunately thermostats are not the simple cheap repair they were in the past. Here in Ontario at a garage it is about $200 parts, labour and tax

Just brought my 2008 HHR home from dealer last night. The check engine light came on this morning. I called the dealer. When the dealer started the car the light went out. I wasn't there when he started it so I don't know what was done to get it to go out but I will keep an eye on this light issue. If anyone finds a solution please let us all know. Thanks.

i have an 06 HHR it said it was a temp code replaced the temp sensor. now i noticed a gas smell when i started the car i just had to change the oil it was at 10%. The oil smelled of gas all i can think of is either a bad ring or a leaking injector. the light came on showing a bad o2 sensor on bank 1 but i don't want to replace it if it is going to be fouled by the gas problem up stream. any ideas to find out what injector is bad?

i have a 2009 hhr. cars has been sounding like a motor cycle for a couple of days now and the noise is coming from the front of the car. Now the check engine light is on. i think the problem started when my car was running hot. I hope it is nothing major because i'm broke.

my check engine light came on, dealer diagnosed, changed computer, didn't solve, dealer told me that they will wait for any same issues from GM, untill then i'll have to wait.
