I have a 97 blazer 4.3 auto 4 wheel drive.
When it rains or I run it through a car wash it will not shift into 3 rd or 4th gear. I took it to the shop and they did a diagnosis on it to see if the computer was sending shift signals and it was they wanted to further test it for more bucks i thought I would do wiring test and then solinoid test internal drop the pan and go from there. any sugestions on what to start with would be apreciated.

Sometimes, when I am driving at 65 to 75 mph, the transmission in my 96 Blazer 4X4 will go into Neutral (with the shifter still in drive) and my speedometer drops to zero. I have to stop and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Then I restart it and can drive like nothing happened. I went to two tranny shops, but no codes showed up and the problem didn't happen when they test drove it. It seems to happen more during long trips.

Anybody know what this is?

I had same problem with another car, 94 Plymouth Voyager. The thing finally died, it was the alternator dropping out. Good luck.

I have a '96 Blazer, 2 Dr, 4 x 4 and have recently noticed that when first starting out that the vehicle makes a humming noise as if not going into gear. I went to pull out of garage and the reverse would not work, it was if it was locked up. I put it in Neutral to push it back and still felt as if locked up. After much deliberation and pain I was finally able to get the Blazer out of my garage. Can you help?

Ok! I have a 96 S10 pickup 4x2 with similar issues. Still am trying to figure out what the problem is. It just won't change off first gear most of the time. I am forced to drive on first gear.:) Well, please don't try that! Not safe or economical!!And sometimes I get lucky and it does change gears but, after it seats for let's say a day(specially in winter)we're back to square one. Also my ABS light would go on on the instrument cluster, also my speedometer stops working when this happens. Well, for sure I know that my tranny needs work but that does not explain my issue. I am speculating it has to be either a speed sensor, or solenoid, or computer. Not sure which one of the three. Remember these vehicles come with the 4L60e(electronically controlled trannies) so, if any electronics are bad, you're in trouble. But at the end, an experienced technician would be able to conclude what exactly is the problem. I simply do not know enough about the electrical system or the 4l60e automatic transmission of this vehicle. I just have to do a little research.
Also, I have a rebuilt 4x4 4L60e automatic transmission complete with converter that I bought originally for my blazer which I sold before I installed the tranny. I have no use for it now so if anyone needs a good 4L60e they can contact me at ( [email protected] ) I also have some transfer cases and front differentials for these cars.

I have a 96 chevy s10 pickup 4x2 automatic that I've been driving on first gear. Lately it will not change past first gear. I know the problem has to be either a speed sensor, solenoid, or transmission computer. As I do not know the electrical system and the 4L60e automatic transmission of that vehicle, wouldn't be able to draw any conclusion yet. When the vehicle is stuck on first gear, the ABS light would come on and the speedometer quits working, and when it miraculously works, the ABS light goes off and the speedometer works again. With this info, it should be quite easy for someone familiar with the vehicles to tell me what the problem is. In the meantime, I will do a little research on the electrical system and transmission of this vehicle. When I find out what the problem was, I will post again.
Also, I have a rebuilt 4x4 4L60e automatic transmission for blazer, jimmy, bravada, pickup, and other similar chevy and gmc truck. The tranny has very low miles. I also have some front differentials, NPG 233c transfer cases and more. If you have any interests, you can contact me at [email protected]
