GM approves plug-in Cadillac hybrid

The board of General Motors Co has approved a plan to produce a plug-in hybrid for the luxury Cadillac brand that will adapt technology developed for the upcoming Chevrolet Volt, according to people briefed on the decision.

Typical GM.... Launch a Chevrolet with design tolerances so big you can stick your finger in between components, then slap a crown and wreath on it and call it a Cadillac. Cadillac is supposed to be a premium luxury vehicle. Cadillacs should have very small and precise design tolerances (i.e., the hallmark of craftsmanship). Since the design originally begins with large tolerances, there is no way they can be reduced effectively enough to yield luxury quality. This is exactly why Toyota introduces a Lexus first, then adapts the chassis for a Toyota later. Design tight tolerances first, then relax them for the lower cost vehicles. Hasn't GM learned anything?
