It is not an oversight. It is how many of the car manufacturers are building them now. I had a 2002 Audi and it only had a key hole at the driver door. The key fob did everything else. Same with Chevy. Look in the parling lots, new or nearly new cars are that way. You'll see.
They're building that way when the vehicle has remote entry. Lot's of Colorado's do not have remote entry and those should have the door lock installed on the passenger side, but don't for some reason. I have two Ford Taurus'; one with remote and one without. The one without has the door lock added to the passenegr side while the one with remote does not.

I was so mad at GM when I found out my Colorado didn't have a passenger side key entry. The dealer didn't even tell me about it. Probably because if I had known ahead of time, I would not have bought this truck. I think Silverado's have the passenger side key lock, why not Colorado/Canyon? Is it a cost cutting thing? I would have gladly payed a little more in price of the truck to be able to get in the passenger door from the outside. I hope GM is happy, their little $50 savings will probably cause me never to buy a GM product again. I wonder who the whiz kid genious was who thought this idea up. Whoever, I hope he gets fired and never works again, at least not designing automobiles.
Thanks a hell-of-a-lot guys!

I have a 2005 Colorado and my brake shoes are already worn at only 20,000 miles. Took it to the dealership and he said yep you will have to replace about every 20-25,000 miles. HAs anyone else had this problem. I have had several trucks with OVER 100,000 mile never replaced shoes...The dealership also said this was a new product they were trying out. I think it is silly to replace shoes that often.
my 2005 colorado has 20,140 miles on it... i cannot notice any significant break wear

I to have a 2005 colorado pickup base model and discovered that there is not passenger door lock, the dealer said it was to keep costs done, wrong!! they put a tail gate lock on the thing that I will never use, they just wanted me to spend another 500$ for the remote door locks and power windows, I would not mind just being able to get remote door locks but I did not want power windows, just something else to go wrong and have to fix later on, I use up a vehicle before I get a new one so buy the time I will get rid of this one the powerwindows would become a liability. Its just Greedy Car companies trying to get more cash out of your pocket.

YOU CANNOT USE A REMOTE BECAUSE THE BASE MODELS HAVE STD. LOCKS, NOT ELECTRIC. YOU HAVE TO CRAWL THROUGH THE CAB TO UNLOCK THE PASSENGER DOOR. FOLLOW UP ON THE INFO AND YOU WOULD KNOW THIS ....... THEY ARE A PAIN IN THE BUT ... RIGHT ALONG WITH THE NON-RECLINING SPLIT BENCH SEAT. TOO BAD MAZDA DOES NOT MAKE TRUCKS, I'D TAKE THIS COLORADO BACK.

I own a 05 crewcab. Keyless fob case broke after 1 year. Seventy thousanths of an inch of plastic to hold it on a key ring. GM wants $80 for a new fob. Fob sits at home on shelf. I use a key to get in passenger door and hit the switch to let my wife and kids in. Now the electric locks stopped working. I have to crawl in the driver seat and crawl around the truck to open all the doors! That and many other problems, make this my last of 8 new GM products in my life. Toyota here I come.

We have a fleet of 2005 and 2006 Colorados and are routinely changing rear brakeshoes. The latest has 41,000 miles and is getting its second set of shoes which is not a cheap job to do.GM really stuck it to our company with these pieces of crap.

I own a '06 Colorado Xtreme. LOVE IT! Having no keyhole on the passenger side IS NOT A BIG DEAL. I use my key-fob and unlock it. My brakes are still brand new looking as well, no problems there. Seems like the majority of people posting are the rare few who have issues. We need more positive people posting here!

The new 2007's come with passenger keyholes though.

And I use my tailgate lock ALL the time, that was a genius idea!

My 2006 Colorado regular cab has the remote keyless entry. I don't see the need for a key lock in the passenger door.

I have a 2005 Colorado with about 20,000 miles on it. I have not had any problems with the brakes. I hope the situation others have mentioned isn't true for every vehicle. Some have refered to the Colorado as I piece of s***, but I like my Colorado and have not had any problems with it.

Not having the keyhole on the passenger side is both unsafe and an annoyunce to me. However I find it far less annoying than having a brand new truck in the shop every 1500 miles because McMullen Chevrolet in Dallas Oregon cant pull there head out of there you now what and figure out the problem. It is not because the truck is on gravel roads because I have kept it off gravel roads and it still starts locking the brakes up after 1500 miles. On top of that little problem I have had multiple things replaced due to manufacturing default, and now the truck has 26,000 miles on it and it wont even idle properly. I am not hard on vehicles as all other vehicles I have owned have lasted a very long time and were sold in good working order. I believe this truck is one of the most worthless vehicles ever built and I feel safer driving my 1963 Chevy Corvair than this POS, at least it has door locks on both sides. I will never due business with McMullen Chevrolet again and will have to think long and hard before I even consider buying a chevy.
