I own a 2006 colorado, I love most things about this truck, but not having access to passenger door when locked is more of a pain than i origanally thought it would be. This is a 20k plus z-71 4x4 there is no reason for this lack of oversight.

I also own a 2006 Colorado, and had no idea when I bought it that there is no way to unlock the passenger door from the outside. I would not have bought it had I known that, and will never buy a GM product again! As a small woman, I consider this a safety issue - I may need to get into the truck quickly sometime and running to the other side of the truck to get in may not be to my advantage. This shortcut makes me wonder what other thingsthey might have cut corners on.

I was so mad at GM when I found out my Colorado didn't have a passenger side key entry. The dealer didn't even tell me about it. Probably because if I had known ahead of time, I would not have bought this truck. I think Silverado's have the passenger side key lock, why not Colorado/Canyon? Is it a cost cutting thing? I would have gladly payed a little more in price of the truck to be able to get in the passenger door from the outside. I hope GM is happy, their little $50 savings will probably cause me never to buy a GM product again. I wonder who the whiz kid genious was who thought this idea up. Whoever, I hope he gets fired and never works again, at least not designing automobiles.
Thanks a hell-of-a-lot guys!

I too did not realize the passenger door in the base model didn't have a lock until after I bought mine.@#$%& expeletive. VERY inconvenient and thoughtless of GM. But there is a lock on the tailgate. The driver-side door handle w/lock looks to be reversible, i.e it could fit on the passenger side by rotating it 180 degrees and there is a lock cylinder in the tailgate. Inconvenience and GM stingyness aside: Has anyone tried adding this to the passenger side? Anyone know if the mechanism is in the passenger door to connect to the door latch so when you twist the key in the lock the door unlocks? Alternatively, has anyone added an electric remote lock? What type of shop does this - an auto alarm shop? While I like my truck in all other respects this has to be the dumbest things GM has done and by the sound of it, it is generating a lot of bad will. It is not an oversight. It is how many of the car manufacturers are building them now. I had a 2002 Audi and it only had a key hole at the driver door. The key fob did everything else. Same with Chevy. Look in the parling lots, new or nearly new cars are that way. You'll see.

All of you who think it's the manufacturer's being thoughtless or cutting cost on not putting a keyhole on the passenger sides need to take a look around. Most cars don't! Hello!!!

My base 93 Colt and 2000 Mirage DE have key holes on both doors.I hate to think that the car companies had to cheapen their $20,000 vehicles that much, when just a few years ago an $8000 car had such "luxury" features standard.Where else have they cheaped these things? You will find out in a couple years when the stuff starts breaking or wearing out prematurely. And is it just me,or is GM's "An American Revolution" ad campaign a rehash of Dodge's mid-80s ad slogan "We are Dodge,an American Revolution"? Hasnt anyone else noticed that? I wonder when GM will pull out Plymouth's old "Match it....If you can!" jingle.

Hey Cindy!! Hello! What are you going to do when your remote keyfob goes dead and you are trying to get into your passenger door in a driving rain? When you have to walk around to the drivers side just to get a key hole, you'll be cussing yourself out that you didnt buy a $50000 car instead of a $20000 one....(or else regret that you didnt take advantage of the $8000 "luxury equipped" economy cars when you had the chance). This is progress remember.Only one keyhole per family today.

I have a 2004 Colorado. I HATE the fact that it doesn't have a keyhole on the passenger side!! I have never heard of that before having this truck. It made it impossible for my husband to open the door for me when we would go somewhere in it together! It's ridiculous!

The vehicles mentioned in previous posts that DON'T have lock cylinders in the passenger doors DO have REMOTE LOCKS. Two vehicles I own are so configured. So let's end that discussion right now. At first when I discovered I couldn't unlock the passenger door I thought GM had made a mistake on the assembly line with my truck so I told the dealer. He laughed. It is dangerous for men and women alike. Dangerous to need to go to the traffic side and reach over and unlock the passenger door each time you need access your samples for customers. Dangerous if you have a young child in your arms who needs to be in a child car seat on the passenger side. It is just plain wrong of GM not to inform buyers who wouldn't think to look for such a stupid omission. My suggestion is owners start to file complaints with the Consumer Product Safety Commission. P.S. One estimate I got to have remote locks added - car alarm/tint shops do it - was $280 in San Diego.

Why should one spend more to get remote locks? What happens when the system acts up and needs repairs? What happens 10 years down the road (if any of those trucks last that long)when the system fails and nobody wants to spend the money to fix it? GMs legacy of cutting corners will haunt them not just today, but down the road. And you just have to feel sorry for the salesmen that are forced to sell GM products....they have to conceal so many issues from the prospective buyers....imagine a 60 year old lifelong salesman today...he's had to bite his tongue on Corvairs,Vegas,Chevettes,Monza s,Citations, early Cavaliers,Celebrities,Side saddle C/K trucks.... They must recieve as much training in "hush up" as they do in psychology....

I have a 2005 Colorado and my brake shoes are already worn at only 20,000 miles. Took it to the dealership and he said yep you will have to replace about every 20-25,000 miles. HAs anyone else had this problem. I have had several trucks with OVER 100,000 mile never replaced shoes...The dealership also said this was a new product they were trying out. I think it is silly to replace shoes that often.
