Just installed a new engine and cannot get a spark out of the coil. I tried the coil in a different vehicle and it worked. I also tested it according to the Chilton's manual and it tested out OK. I'm stumped...any clues??

My 1997 Chevrotlet pickup has lots of problems. Around 7k miles, I had to replace the engine. Around 45k miles, had to replace the transmission. The windshield wiper pulse board, replaced. Right front wheel sensor, replaced. The undercarriage is a total rust. The rear bumper has rusted through. The front windsheld craked sitting still and had to be replaced. The rear sliding window has blown out. It is being held in by duck tape now. The tackometor sticks on 6k. The gas guage goes another 1/4 past full. The speedometer runs 5 miles faster than I'm going. The truck hops and has wore out 5 sets of tires. I have only drove the truck 107k miles since I bought it new. I have babies this truck since I bought it. My question is: WHY HAVE I GOT A CHEVY TRUCK THAT HAS SO MANY PROBLEMS. I have paid receipts for all the above. Thank you. Larry

The simple solution is to sell the truck and find one that displays either FORD or DODGE 2000 or newer and your problems will disappear.

Your gear idea is good but don't forget to tell everybody that you now have cut your power in half.
The hole shot is a little sluggish when you up your ratio that much, glad you got better mileage and I'll run ya for pink slips when ever your ready.

Scott, What do you have done to the motor? You are dreaming if you are thinking of putting 39's on it without changing the gearing

i did not lose any power ,because when i changed gears you need to buy a power programmer by hypertech it makes alot of diffrence.i can do a long burn out on 35's (have video)

Ah, you didn't say anything about a Hyper Tech to the last guy, it makes a big difference indeed. I know about them..
I own a 2004 Duramax and the Hyper makes this thing Hyper big time.

Whats with all the compression questions?

Larry from Columbus, sounds like you have an abuse problem, glass just doesn't break on it's own and if your going through tires that fast you may want to take the camper out once and a while, oh and wash it, it really helps with the rust problems if you keep it clean. I think it's too late for your truck through, and for that other advice from Jeff McCarthy in Yorkton Canada, LOL those are names that keep me busy at my shop.

By a Chevy thats not wore out and then take care of it.

I have a 1997 z71 with 22inch wheels with 325/55/22 humho road venture tires. It has a 4 inch lift. I probably get about 8 to 12 mpg. My motor is original and has about 200,000 miles so i dont know how much different it would be on a rebuilt motor.

I have 1995 Z71 with 275000 miles. I bought it for my 16 year old son about a year ago. I've only had to do small repairs so far,the fuel pump was the biggest. The problem I have is a hesitation when I take off from a stop like its not getting enough fuel. I thought that it was the fuel pump causing it when it stopped working, but it still does it with the new pump. Other than that it runs good for high miles. Any ideas?

Hi Howy, I'm not sure what you have going on there unless you replaced the pump and left the plugged up fuel filter on it, it must be replaced.

The filter is the #1 reason the pumps fail, filter restricts and the pump works overtime and then POOP! pumps junk.

You have the old throttle body style motor, they were pretty tough, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is a possible early EGR valve application, unplug the vacuum line to it and drive it, see if it helps. Good Luck

Thanks for the help, Wenis. I'll try the EGR valve. Another question, I had the front end lifted with aftermarket torsion keys after installing 35"BFG muds, now the shocks are maxed out. I didnt know this till later. Can someone recommend a good set of shocks or a reasonably priced 4" lift.
