I have a 99 Venture that I recently had intake manifold replaced (was loosing coolant to the driveway). 3 months later, I know have a situation where temp gauge is goign all over the place (think it is the thermostat). When was starting to red line, I placed heater on max, but no heat coming into cab. Pulled over and parked. Does a bad thermostat explain no heat into vehicle?

ITS LOCATED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE INTAKE PLENUM UNDERNEATH THE THROTTLE BODY. ITS DEFINITELY NOT THE EASIEST THING TO GET TO (UNLESS YOU'RE ALREADY CHANGING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET)

Interestingly enough I am having this problem as well. I was going to put the thermostat in but that appears to be very difficult to do on this vehicle, what have you done?

In reference to changing the thermostat. You should be able to get to the thermostat housing by removing the throttle body without removing the whole upper intake.

I guess $1,600. isn't too bad since I had only one head gasket replaced and had them throw in wires and spark plugs on 2000 venture for $1,850. Seems there are alot of coolant stream issues with the 3.4 litre in the venture! Now I think, after reading this website, have them do the thermostat as well. a simple fix for the temp regulation issues. good luck

You guys are scaring me. I thought my thermostat went bad, but after replacing it, my temp. guage still went all over the place while interior heat was no longer at my finger tips. How can we push for GM to take resposibility!!!

I have a 2003 chevy venture van and there is hardly any heat coming out. I belive it is my thermostat. Does anyone know where this would be located at on this van.

The thermostat is located on the driver's side of the engine. The thermostat and thermostat housing is mounted on the lower intake manifold. You should be able to follow the radiator hose up to the housing. It is a little hard to see however.

I had my thermostat replaced. My temp gauge pegged past the red mark, but my engine was not steaming and showed no sign of overheating. Apparently the mechanic did not purge the air from the system and this is what caused this. Good Luck

My mechanic raised the van from the front drivers side corner and released the air from the bleeder holes. All the air is out of the lines but the gage is still going all over the place. Had the water pump replaced, the manifold done and now in the process of replacing the thermostat. I guess after reading all the postings next step will be to check the head gaskets. If this don't work I am doing to do a quick fix and sell the piece of crap. I am very unhappy with the response I haev received from GM on this problem. I would like to find someone that is in the process of taking them to court so I can get in on the action.

We bought ours in 2004 with 68,000 miles on it. One year later has to replace the intake manifold gasket & something that went wrong with the steering--$1600. The drivers side mirror doesn't work either, a $400 job that we just never messed with. Now, 2 years later, the stupid coolant light is coming on again & we are losing coolant on the driveway. We only put 10,000 miles on it since the repair. Took it back to the repair guy , he put some dye in the coolant to see where it is leaking & now the stuff is coming out from under the radiator cap. What the heck is this? I will never buy a GM product again!

I just recently replaced the thernostat on this van. It is definantly not a quick five minute job.
You have to remove the air cleaner duct. Then remove the throttle body. The thermostat is then located under the throttlebody and is held on with 2 bolts. I made a check list of the steps I did so I wouldnt forget anything on the reinstall.
Hope this helps

I have a 2000 venture. My Temp. gauge was all over the place. After bleeding the coolant system i still had the same problem. I then changed the thermostat. Guess what still had the problem. Then i changed the intake gaskets. Ya, you know that didn't fix it either. Water pump is 6 months old. So now i am in the process of changing the head gaskets fun fun fun. If this doesn't work i will be contacting a lawyer for legal advise on possible class action. My wife and I will never own a GM again. oh ya van has 120,000 miles on it and rusted badly. Were looking into honda ,toyota, maybe nissan. good luck all!!!!
