my dear freind that clicking noise is from your fan clutch, it is common in most blazers and envoy ,prepare your self for a new fan clutch .good luck

I have a 2003 Trailblazer XT with approx 93k miles and have experienced a "ticking" while driving. The ticking noise goes away when I press the brake pedal. This problem has been reported to the mechanic a few months back, but they reported no problem. I am going to take the vehicle back to the dealer again to look at this problem, but would like to get some feedback. Thanks!

Response I received from the dealer in regards to the ticking noise noted in my Sept 8 post was that there is rust on the rotors. They could file it down, but then it would fall below acceptable specs. They could replace the rotors and pads, which other than the rust, are in good, safe operating condition, but at a cost of $1,400+. Looks like I will live with the noise and turn the radio up!

I would call customer service (# in the back of trailblazer manual) explain situation clearly, do not be rude or obnoxious be curtious at all times !!!!. Obviously the warranty has expired and chances are slim but possibilties exist. I have had GM cover costs of major engine repair previously when out of warranty, case by case I guess, I had to pay $200 of the 3300 of work done !! so it's worth trying. good Luck

Sounds to me like your air conditioner clutch cycling. Look down on the front right of the engine. You will see the air condioner pump, driven by the belt which also drives the fan, waterpump and alternatoe, plus a couple of idler pulleys. The pulley is free wheeling untill the pump cycles. You will note that the front of the pulley is stationary untill the pump cycles;then, you will hear a sharp click and the outer end of the pulley will engage and begin to turn...This is normal.

I have a clicking or ticking noise from my 5.3l 05 GMC pick up. I have been to the dealer for 38000km. I only get the noise just after I pull a snowmobile or holiday trailer. The noise stays for 2 or 3 days after. Gm can not find. I think it is a head or lifter problem. any help out there

My Bad, one of my spark plugs needed to be tightened. It was working its way loose, but not enough to lose compression or give out any check engine codes. The ticking is gone, but I have another issue. It has a hard time starting when the engine is warm. It starts just fine when the engine is cold. Any clues?
try replacing your fuel filter

I have a 2004 Trailblazer with the 4.2 liter I-6 engine. When the rpm get between 2,000 and 2,500 it sounds like the valves are coming out of the engine. Anyone else have this problem and if so what was the answer. Trailblazer has 48,000 miles.

I know this response is way late but may benefit someone else who comes across it. I have a GEO Metro, 1994, and each time I experienced this phenomina it was the water pump giving signs that it needed replaceing soon! Hope this helps someone who comes across it. JESUS is LORD

I have been a mechanic for a long time and I own a 2003 Trailblazer. I also have the random ticking noise from the front of the engine at idle and there is no method to the ticks, just random. This is caused by the cooling fan cluch. Yes the noise means that the part is going but doesnt mean its gone mine has been making noise for 2 yrs. Watch for engine light or overheating. When either occur its time to have service done. I hope this helps somebody
