It takes me 15-20 turns to tighten my gas cap when I have put gas in my vehicle. After a few days of driving.. ding ding ding.. on goes the "tighten fuel cap" warning. I have 2005 Trailblazer with less than 25,000 miles on it. Took it to the dealer a few months ago ~ they said it was fine, but they "replaced the cap" anyway. Fueled up on a Friday a few weeks ago.. on Monday morning.. ding ding ding.. "tighten fuel cap" warning again. It's back in the shop, they said they couldn't find anything wrong AGAIN, but replaced the gas cap AGAIN.

Anyone else having this problem? If so.. what's the solution!?!?

Push Down and just a slight turn and it should lock.

I have tried that.. half a turn, one turn.. two.. it doesn't seem to be finding anything to latch on to ~ almost like a screw whose threads have been stripped. I certainly will try your suggestion, however.. I'm at my wit's end fighting the issue!

Thanks!

I've gone through 5 yes 5 gas caps counting the OE cap. Each new cap seems to last a shorter period of time. I replace them when the "Service Engine Soon" light comes on. Put on an new cap and drive 20 miles or so and the light goes right off. I don't buy OE's because of cost. Stat brand at a local parts store. Today I was asked if when I filled the tank, I filled it beyond the first auto stop. Sure who doesn't? With the price of gas I fill that sucker to the brim. Found out that's a big no-no and can damage the system that's related to the carbon canister. Oh well. Have a new cap and I'll try the suggestion not to overfill.... Google Overfilling fuel tank and see for yourself.

We have an 04 Trailblazer and yes, we have the same problem. Although I must say, we just started having the problem. Am frustrated at the fact Chevy may know this is a problem but hasn't stepped forward to address. Cowards for taking advantage of the "Service Engine Soon" light that they have programmed to unnecessarily cause you to schedule a service appointment at your own expense. Hopefully if enough voices are heard, they may feel compelled to do something.

We are also having the same problem. I have an '04 Trailblazer and I cannot get the gas cap to lock down. I took it back to the dealership and they said there was nothing wrong and did nothing. My service engine light keeps coming on. I had both of my parents and my husband try and all failed. I found that if you push down too hard, the handle turns and the inside part does not, therefore not locking down. This should not be this difficult. This needs to be recalled.

I have the same problem also, but went from a small leak to a large leak. Does a after market brand work any better for anyone. My TB is an "04 and they put the fuel canister behind the tank shield next to the tank, making it nearly impossible to access it and the lines running to it to see if the leak is coming from one of the connections.

I have an 04 and I am glad to see that I am not the only one with this frustrating problem. My boyfriend thinks I'm nuts, he can get the gas cap on with no problem, but every time I get gas about a day later tighten fuel cap and service engine light come on. It Should not be this difficult to tighten a fuel cap!!!!!

I have an 06 Trailblazer and an 06 Impala, both with identical fuel caps, and identical issues regarding locking them down. Believe it or not, my wife has no problem with either one, but I do. Glad to see it is not just me though. Seems that you have to turn the cap for eternity, yet it still pops off and hasn't tightened one bit. I'm not gonna go to the dealer to be told nothings wrong. Pretty pathetic when you need to be schooled on the intallation of a gas cap!!

I have an 04 TB and went through 3 gas caps before the dealer figured out that I had a crack in the throat of the fuel tank. They had to replace the entire fuel tank to fix it. It was covered under drive train warranty. Anyone need 2 used but good fuel caps??

I have an 04 TB also. Been dealing with the gas cap issue since about 300 miles on the odometer. I've been successful in the past. Every once in a while, the cap would not lock down, but then somehow, I'd get it to work. Just yesterday though, it got stuck again and I can't seem to lock it down. Just spins endlessly. I might try the "gentle" quarter turn technique that Charlie from Michigan suggested. I was about to call the dealership. After hearing of everyone's issues, I think I'll avoid them!

I also have issues with a crack fuel tank neck causing the check engine light on, so if your cap replacing issue isn't fixing the problem, this is the next area to look into. I like my Trailblazer, but the fuel evaporator system issues is driving me nuts.

I am having a problem with my 2005 TB gas gauge. I can fill up and the light still comes on as it is empty. Then a day later slowly it levels to where it suppose to be. Is anyone having this problem?

No, but it sounds like the sending unit in the tank is at fault. The arm which is attached to the float may be sticking and works itself free over time. Eventually it will stop working all together.

Got mine to go off wiping the top of the filler and the gasket on the cap ( i think as after doing that the next \day the light went off)

My 2005 equinox with 50,000 miles on it just did the gas cap thing tonight. All of a sudden after filling up can't get it to lock on. I put a piece of plastic over the top and shoved the gas cap on. This is probably not ok, right?

my 02 has this problem as well. the factory gas caps are junk, but the replacements are only worse. you just kind of have to deal with it and keep buying OE caps....
