If your battery goes dead, the ignition locks the key in ignition switch. You put a new battery in and you'll be able to remove the key

2003 Trailblazer - I have the exact same problem as Brenda. My key is stuck in the ignition, will turn as if to start but everything is dead. It will not turn all the way to the off position. Doors won't work, horn is dead. I noticed recently that when I pressed the remote lock the audible feedback (horn) was weak.
Does anybody know if it could be the battery?

I've had the same problem, and there's a solenoid in the ignition that needs power to engage so you can turn the key to lock and pull it out. Also check the IGN O, 10 amp fuse under the driver side rear seat should be checked as it powers the ingnition key.

My ignition will not come out either. I had it brought to the mechanics and they said it was the shift locking solenoid. Does that sounds right. The mechanic said it would cost 300.00 to replace and fix. That doesn't sound right though.

I am having the same problem..battery has been dead twice, I had it jumped and tested the battery at AutoZone and it was all good. Went to lock up my car this evening and noticed that lights were dim, went out to start it and nothing. Then I couldn't get my key out. What could be draining my battery?

Had the same problem on my '03 EXT. Daughter drove the car today and said the car sounded like the accessories were still running after taking the key out. Checked it tonight and key is stuck and absolutely no power! I plan to jump or replace the battery tomorrow but something caused that car not to shut off the power when we pulled the key out earlier in the day. Note: The check engine light came on a week or so back. That ignition solenoid sounds like a possibility.

Same problem on our 2002 Blazer, on 02/11/2009.
It was a Dead battery. Hooked up the Charger to
the Battery... lights came on,key came right out.

No other problems as of 02/12/2009.....

your anti theft system may be enabled. Did you play with the power door locks before starting?

there should be a button under the steering wheel and you pry off the tiny cap and push a screwdriver on to the button that will look like a brass cylinder...hold the button in and turn the key and it will come out also it has something to do with the sshift release solenoid located on the shifter if this doesnt work try turning car off slam it into 1st and then back to park

Here is the reply from another person below:
My Check engine light came on tonight, poor acceleration etc... key was stuck as well.

I am gonna clairfy his post below:

Under the ign lock assbly there is a small plastic plug... pop the plug out and stick a small screw driver in...u should imediately feel a spring load button in there. Push up with the screw driver and turn key back, it will come out.

Did that then tried all over again key got stuck pushed in the button with screw driver, work like a charm.

Now 2morrow I will get the ck eng light code diagnosed.

"there should be a button under the steering wheel and you pry off the tiny cap and push a screwdriver on to the button that will look like a brass cylinder...hold the button in and turn the key and it will come out also it has something to do with the sshift release solenoid located on the shifter if this doesnt work try turning car off slam it into 1st and then back to park "

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Sagittarius

It's difficult to keep your mind on what you're doing today because it keeps wandering off in all directions. There won't be much you can do about this except to be aware of it, and preferably to postpone doing anything very complicated or important until you're less distracted and absent-minded. Unfortunately, you won't get very far with it at the moment.
