Hey all..

I have a 2001 Tracker w/ about 60K miles.

My problem is with the power windows -- specifically, the fuse keeps blowing, and I keep having to replace it.

I took it to the dealer the 1st time, they checked everything, said it was all OK, just needed a new fuse. They said it had probably blown if, for example, 2 people had tried to roll different windows at the same time (which would have been a possibility at the time they stopped working).

2nd time I was alone in the car, but had just turned the AC on -- I thought that was perhaps the culprit.

3rd time I shut the AC off, and made certain I wasn't doing anything else -- ran the window down, and the fuse blew and I couldn't get it back up w/o changing the fuse (I now keep spares in the car).

Any idea why this is happening and what I can do to keep from putting a new $3 fuse into my car several times a day?

Thanks!

i have a 02 4x4 4 cyl tracker 4 door.
this summer has been hell. first the auto locks stopped working(didnt really care though), then my belts started to squel alot so i took it to my mechanic who said the belts were goiod and the noise was due to scratched pullys. it was fixed by using a wire brush on the pullys while motor was tunning. a week later the squeal came back. with that not enough, my a/c quit, light still on but no cold air. and in the same week the exhaust started to heat up and we would get smells of really sulphery exhaust comming in the windows.(not very nice to drive a black car with windows up and no ac in th esummer) to top it all off last week on my way to get groceries it died, boosted it to get home and battery died again. bad alternator i presume.

has anyone every had all these things go, and if you can help my fix them it would be great. thanks

My 2001 Chevy Tracker squeels and has for a couple years. No mechanic can fix it. Many have tried. Both rear window motors have broken and they won't go up and down. Kids in the back can't open and shut their windows. The front window motors are going as well. It is only a matter of time. I can tell by the slowness and the need for assistance as I pull up on the window with my hand. The two front door handles have pulled out from the door frame and I now let my self out of the drivers door by rolling down the window and opening it up from the outside. When the window completely breaks I will be trapped in my car.

I have a 2001 Chevy/Tracker base. I became frustrated with buying that "pink $3.00 fuse for power windows. What I did was-take a blown fuse shell; remove the dark red top to the fuse and bought an automatic reset 30amp fuse with two (2) long jointed fuse insert tangs; slowly twisted the legs to fit into using thin needlenosed pliars;inserted the reset fuse so that each leg was touching the blown fuse metal tab by squeezing together both the blown fuse and the reset as tight as I could get. I reinserted my fuse concoction to test the windows and it worked! Pulled out my construct and filled blown fuse with hot glue and reinserted the new reset into the blown fuse before the glue became hard. Reinserted the new fuse setup and have not had any trouble from then on. May not be kosher but cheaper than $3.00 a pop!
