The ABS has a computer called an Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). When you remove the 60 amp fuse, you're removing the power supply from the EBCM. The EBCM just happens to control the ABS pump. If the ignition key is in the off position and the ABS pump is still running it is likely that the computer (EBCM) that commands the pump's operation has an internal electrical problem. In the event that the EBCM is the cause for the problem, it is replaced as an assembly. The assembly includes the computer, pump, control valves for the ABS system and is a pricey unit (~$800). However, you can try the following website that repairs these modules rather than having a dealership install a new one.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Same thing happened to me yesterday on my 2001. Wife and I were in Orlando, 250 miles from home. Called my mechanic and he told me to pull the fuse. Drove home OK today and will drop off the truck on Monday. What happened when you got yours fixed??

I am expereicing the same problem. My mechanic also told me to pull the fuse so that the pump will go off. Also to check the fluid in my brake booster under the hood. If it is low, the light will come on and you will hear air going through the pump which will make it run continuously.

Just happened to my 2002 Suburban. Pulled the 60 amp fuse to shut the motor off. Since this is such an expensive repair, why not just leave the fuse out permanently and live without the ABS system. The brake system seems to work just fine without ABS.

I have a 2001 Tahoe. ABS pump keeps running with the motor off. I replaced the EBCM and that did not cure the problem. Still runs with the motor off. Any other ideas? Happened while the truck was in the bodyshop for front end hood and grill repair.
