My 2004 tahoe seems to have the same problem, At a stop it registers 10 to 30 mph, At 65 mph it reading zero to 30 but mostly zero. It started by acting erractic and now it barely works. Hoping for a recall.

WE have a 2004 Trailblazer also and first the TACH went crazy and now the speedometer is erratic and the cruise control is unpredictable! Talk about a nightmare, I also contacted GM customer care and they don't really care at all! NEVER again will a GM product's tire hit my garage floor!!

Sorry to disappoint you, I did write to GM. They called me after they received my letter about a 2004 Trailblazer, but they did absolutely nothing!!!! Their response was that although some trucks and suvs are affected by this, the trailblazer hasn't had enough complaints so my repair won't be covered.
I mentioned to GM that we currently own 4 GM vehicles and have owned no less than 35 others. They don't care.

Hey Richard Waggoner and GM......don't blame the gas prices for the truck and SUV plant closures!

First let me say I feel sorry for the employees that will lose their jobs. But.....and it's a big But.....just look at all the over 900 posts on Topix regarding how GM has treated its Tahoe and Silverado customers regarding faulty speedometer and gauges from their 2003 and newer model years. GM put in defective parts at assembly and now won't stand behind their product.

What goes around, comes around. Just look at how many aggravated Silverado and Tahoe customers who because of GM ignoring their customers on this issue are vowing never to buy GM again.......I'm one of them!

Check with GM. They extended the warranty on my instrument panel until 2010. I have a 2003 Tahoe. Sent me a letter.

Received letter also, but only good if mileage under 70,000. Paid $400 out of pocket to get fixed. I understand that many have posted on here that they had to pay much more. GM should have fixed ALL since these parts were defective from the start. GM sued Delphi (their parts supplier) and won. That money should have gone to replacing all defective speedometer motors, not just the ones with mileage under 70,000 miles. GM waited so many years to recall that now many of these vehicles have over 70,000 miles.

You are correct. I went back and read the letter again. Mine has 87,000 on it now, so I guess I am out of luck.

My tahoe had the same problem. The dealership said that there were some faulty clusters and replaced it for free. It works great now.

I need to correct my spelling on the fuse I mentioned earlier.
It is the "IPC/DIC" 10 amp fuse in the engine compartment
Thanks Roger. I took out the IPC/DIC fuse, started my car, turned off, put fuse back in, restarted my car and everything is currently working. Hopefully, this problem won't persist. Thanks a ton for sharing your knowledge. The dealer service dept neglected to mention this trick. Thanks again!

This speedo problem sounds like another problem G.M. caused but refuses to address. Like they don't have a chipping paint problem. What do these jerks think this leads to? It leads to never buying any G.M. product ever again. They must have hired the people fired from Audi who said their cars never can just go into reverse. How long does the public have to put up with these criminals. Are these the hotshots coming out of colleage and going to work for G.M.? If these young idiots are our newest and brightest we're screwed. They build crap but never can fix it when it doesn't work. Again, IDIOTS. And I'm sure over paid idiots. Electronics have surely surpassed they're brain cells.

I'm in the same boat. My 2003 Escalade now has 95000 miles on it but it has had this problem for over a year. We have talked to the dealer but the recall doesn't include us because we have too many miles even though the problem occured before we got the recall. It will cost us several hundred dollars to get it fixed. It would work for a while and we thought it was fixed but now is stuck below the 120 mph area. Just received another recall notice today but of course it doesn't include vehicles over 70,000 miles. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm not having any problems with speedometer, but my steering gear box has been replaced 4 times under warranty and now just a year later looks like I'm gonna have to do it again and GM does not have a solution at this time.
My steering shaft got wobbly also. Replaced once under warranty and once paid for. GM's explaination to me ?? It's made of aluminum, not sturdy enough, they know it, but won't change the comsposite to steel. But not worry, NO safety problems!!!! x(

I had the same issue with a GMC Jimmy. Erratic fluctuating speedometer and felt like the transmission wasn't shifting out of second gear. I could stop and shut down and wait 5 minutes or so and start back up and go fine. It was the vehicle speed sensor. There are speed sensors at the wheels for the ABS and on the transmission. Turned out we had one bad at the wheel and on the transmission. Worked fine after that.

Same here 2003 Tahoe speedometer acting up. Going all the way past 120 MPH. Sometimes if I stop slowly it will get to 70 and if I start the engine over and over again until it gets to zero it works for a while until I pass 70 MPH and it then goes back all the way to 120??

Who knows ??

Google:
Needle Functions #07187A

This will lead to a link with the bulletin containing information on the free warranty replacement of the IPC (with conditions) if it is under 7 years old and 70,000 miles, whichever come first.

This is really unfair. I have had the same issue for over a year. I never received a recall notice. I have just had to live with it. Today I received a copy of a class action lawsuit. However according to the suit if my mileage is over 70k I'm screwed. The speedometer stopped at 50k.
