2003 Tahoe with 43,000 miles...erratic speedometer too. Mine periodically displays speeds much lower than actual, and the needle is "jerky" as it rises and falls.

2003 Tahoe, 52000 miles, speedometer is jerky rising and falling and today I noticed the speed being wrong. My neighbor is a service tech for a Chevy dealer, I plan to talk to him in the next day or so and will keep it posted on here what I find out. Watch for faulty bushings on the front springs as well, bulletin has been posted, if GM has continued problem it will become a recall.

I hve been experiencing erratic readings for the last three months in my 2003 Avalanche. At times it seems to work for a short while and then degrades down to near zero at highway speeds. No error codes appear according to my mechanic.

The speedometer on my 2003 Tahoe began acting erratically last November and subsequently stopped altogether. All other instruments , including the odometer, still work fine. I haven't bothered having it fixed and usually judge speed roughly by the tachometer. I do seem to get places quicker, though...

I have an '03 Yukon with a crazy speedometer too. My speedometer does not move at all after doing all of the things mentioned above. I just hear an anoying "tick, tick, tick". The service person at the dealership said it was the motor to the speedometer and it would cost around $495 to fix. I will judge by the tach as well until it becomes a recall.

My 2003 Tahoe speedo is acting whacky also. I also have been having the motor sound like it is running on 2 cylinders. I shut the vehicle off and wait a few. Then it is fine. I am afraid to take it to the dealer. Because i know i will get screw-- on the cost to repair.

My 2004 Tahoe Speedometer stopped working at 37K miles for a few days then started working again. Now at 41K miles it look to be shot. It randomly moves from 70 to past 120. I am taking it into the dealer today (I have son starting and got to have that speedometer!).

I am taking it into the dealer today (I have son starting and got to have that speedometer!). I'm very interested to hear if your dealership has any good solutions other that a $450+ fix. A local automotive place just changed out our speed sensor for $185 but within about 12 hrs the speedometer was screwed up again in our 2004 Chevy Tahoe. We took it back to the automotive place and now they're stumped. Help!

We have a 2004 Tahoe. The speedometer stopped on it also. I was told by the guy at our parts store that it was the speed sensor, which my husband can replace. So is it going to do any good to replace it? Our steering gear box is also going out. Anybody having this problem? We have 49k on our 2004 tahoe and it simply isn't working.

It would say I was going 120 mph when idling, wouldn't return to 0, and then finally pegged at max and stopped moving. It parts, labor, and tax it cost roughly $1,100.00 for the dealership to repair. Now a friend's 2004 GMC Envoy's speedometer is doing the same thing.

I don't think replacing the speed sensor will work. Custom Complete Automotive in Columbia, MO replaced the speed sensor and reset the computer in our '04 Tahoe. It worked for about 12 hours before screwing up again (ie. 70 mph will in the driveway). Custom contacted Perry Chevrolet in Columbia. They said they were familiar with the problem and they had seen 3 or 4 cases. They said the entire "cluster" needed to be replaced (total cost from Custom will be $550). We're having the work done this week so hopefully that'll do the trick. I just hope it doesn't happen again. So how can we push GM to make this a recall? Can we write or call someone? Will they listen?

My 2004 Denali was exhibiting strange behavior such as indicating 120mph at a stop sign etc. I finally took it to the GMC dealer, they said the solution was to remove the existing Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)and to install a reconditioned one. I just picked it an hour ago and it worked at least to the house. Total cost for labor and materials was $771.30.
