I would love to know how you can do this with the NAV... My 07 LTZ has every option available and I hate the NAV.

Going on seven months with the 07 LTZ Burb and am loving it. I haven't had the problems many on here have had. I'll agree that it doesn't have much pep and you better make sure you have space before pulling out in traffic. My gas mileage improved once my engine was broken in and I'm getting better mileage around town than I did in my smaller 04 Durango. I get close to 20 on the highway. I can't complain about that. It rides great and I haven't had the wind noise issues either. The cabin is extremely quiet. Great SUV!

The Suburban is a heavy truck 5,000-6,000 pounds depending on equipment and whether half or three quarter ton, so you cannot expect compact car fuel economy. I just swapped my model year 2000 (our 4th or 5th since 1991) for a 2008 3/4 ton and it is giving only 12 mpg combined, using exclusively 2 WD mode. The truck has only 240 miles.

This truck has the iron block & head 6 liter engine, Hydramatic 6 speed transmission and 3.73 axle.

The previous half ton gave 13 mpg city and 16-19 mpg highway.

I don't have any of the problems getting into traffic. My Burb is fast, but hey, I have a 6.0ltr, intake, exhuast and reprogrammed computer with a 4:10 rear-end. I have an 03 and the 07 is (i feel) a better all around SUV...

I bought a used 2002, 2500HD, 8.1, LT-Autoride, Barndoors, cool truck. It's mostly a TV for a TT, but it's nice to know they didn't really get any better and I saved about 18 grand on not buying a new one.

Anyone see the consuemer reports magazine article on the 07 model year cars. The 2007 Suburbans and Yukons were among the list for the most unimpressed vehicles.

All I have to say is that it impressed me enough to go out and buy one over all the others on the market...

I would like to hear what some people are getting for gas mileage. I just did a recent roadtrip, approx 400+ miles, all highway and averaged 15.3mpg. This seems very low to me with all the technology out there. Especially with this new engine that goes into 4cyl mode. My speed varied but averaged probably 60-65mph. I use 91 octane with 10% ethanol blend. I have used E85 and the mpg goes to about 10. Is there somehting wrong?
Ethanol has 33% less energy content than gasoline. The more ethanol is in your blend the lower mileage you would get.

Tim, may I ask you what specific aftermarket parts did you use? I just bought a 2005 8.1 LS and I would love to improve engine's performance. Thanks

I have three suburbans. All of them have big blocks in them. They all used for pulling big trailers. The 1993 has 270,000 miles on the original 454 engine and rebuilt transmission. The 1999, 3/4 454 engine suburban is still running strong with 160,00 miles. Our newest suburban has an 8.1 L in it and is running great. We don't buy these kind of vehicles to get good gas mileage. We buy them for a tough working truck / SUV. GM keep turning these things in the the next VAN ! They need to stop. YOu can no longer get a true big block and more. Now you can only get a 6.0L and it is under powered in a 3/4 chassis.

There maybe a solution soon how ever. Below I have listed some specs on a new suburban that might be coming. A diesel suburban.

A new 4.5 L Duramax is engine is coming out in the suburban hopefully.

They are saying 2010 a Diesel suburban that will be heavy duty (HD). Here is the link with what it will look like. The engine is going to be a smaller diesel that what is in pickups 07 / 08 Pickups. Here is how it compare to the 8.1 liter and 454 gas engines.

http://www.dieselsuburbans.com/10SubDiesel.ht...
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/30/sema-2007-...

So below are the specs for the two Big block gas engines GM had in their 3/4 Ton Suburbans :

8.1-liter gasoline V8 :
peak horsepower: 340 @ 4200 rpm
peak torque: 455 lb-ft @ 3200 rpm

The 454 engine specs:
7.4L , 454cc
Horse Power: 290 @ 4000 RPM
Torque: 430 lb-ft @ 1800 RPM

Here is the NEW Diesel Specs
The Concept Suburban in the Pictures shows :
V8
4.5 Liter Diesel
Peak HP: 310 HP
Torque : 520 lb-ft

But to compare this to the firs Duramax in 2001 here are its specs :
Engine:
Duramax 6600
Horsepower:
300 hp @ 3100 rpm
Torque:
520 lb. ft.@ 1800 rpm

I recently purchased a 2008 Suburban 2500. Has 700 miles on it...Just did my first heavy towing.
Towed a 24' enclosed car trailer with a 3300 lb car in it...total weight 7500 lbs...I expected bad mileage in towing mode...I did not expect 8.3mpg...Are they kidding?...Also after about 50 miles I experienced a whistling noise around the back window/tailgate that comes and goes...but only when towing...so I am assuming it has something to do with the turbulance behind the truck.....where do they get the engineers from...and don't even get me started on the headlights....go ahead, try to change a bulb!...oh and of course the genius trailer brake power wire under the underhood fuse box!
