You have the same problem I just fixed a few weeks back. My guess is there is a short or the leads inside the push button unit have a lack of solder (which is the problem I had). Simply remove the dash shell, pops off. You will have to set the e brake and then tilt stearing down to lowest setting, put key in ignition, apply brake and shift into lowest gear. then you can remove pannel with no problems. Then put back in park and remove key. Take 4wd switch out, unplug it and pop apart. resolder all the leads and snap back together. reverse removal process and start engine. there shouldn't be another issue. the light will go on and off on the dash from time to time because the vibration will not make contact. Cheaper then the 50 to 70 to replace with same gm part and have it go bad again

2008 Suburban --4-wheel drive Q

We are on vacation in the mountains of Central Oregon. I am getting a message to service the 4-wheel drive in our 2008 Suburban. When the vehicle is in 4-wheel high and I am turning around I can hear some noise ("straining") from the vehicle--does not happen if in 2-wheel drive.

My question- is it likely I would damage the vehicle if I drive over a mountain pass in 4 wheel high (approx 30-50 miles on packed snow)?--or should I get it serviced before driving more in 4-wheel high?

Thanks,
