I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 extended cab, 2-wheel drive, it has 112,000 miles. When I accelerate to around 20mph and above my whole truck shakes very very badly. My first thought was that maybe it needs an alignment or that maybe it was miss-firing. Has anyone else had this problem? Or does anyone have any suggestions on what this might be? Thanks for reading.

I have the same problem with my 93 Silverado. My truck shakes violently at beween 40 and 55 mph, it smooth(ish) above 55 mph. I just noticed the problem when I inflated my tires to their apropriate psi. After the shaking I deflated the tires a bit, actually a lot, and the truck stopped shaking. This of course is only a temporary solution. I also wonder, what's going on?

How old are your tires? Might be a crooked tread caused by separation. Have a tire dealer drive your car to see if they are the problem.

I would check your front suspension components...Ball joints, tie-rods, idler arm, bushings, etc. I'm sure something in your suspension is worn out.

I replaced the upper balljoints not to long ago. when I brought the control arms in to get the new ball joints pressed in. The new boots were damaged in the process. Is there a decent replacement boot on the market?

I took the truck to my local mechanic and after a series of attempts we fixed the problem. At first I thought (dreaded) that it was a problem with the ball-joints, but they turned out to be OK. My tires were bad and the mechanic thought they may be the problem, so I got 4 new ones put on and got them balanced. That didn't work. Finally the mechanic found the problem, it was a problem with the steering column. He replaced the old one and ever since then, no shaking. I spent about $800 all together on the tires and repair. It was worth the effort, the truck runs great otherwise. 210,000 miles. After fixing the problem I drove it from NY to North Carolina without any shaking. Feels great!

I have a 2001 Silverado z71 4x4 and i have the shaking problem too. i dont know what the hell to do. my tires are shot but i was lookin at a couple of other forums and they said that it could be the steering dampener shock. i bought a parts truck a while ago that i have been pickin at because after so many problems with my truck i figured it would be worth it to go buy a whole truck that has good parts. so im going to try replacing the steeering column and dampener and i will let you know tomorrow if that fixed it.

I have a 2000 Silverado, 2WD, 112,000 and I have same problem. Turns out that the passenger lower ball joint is junk. My truck shakes at 45+ and the passenger seat looks like it trying to shake itself out of the truck.
