Have your fuel pump checked. It should be making about 50-60 psi. When mine went out on my '99 it was only making about 30 psi. It would never die, but it would sputter when I tried to accelerate. My local mechanic charged me about $550 to change the pump and clean out the fuel system.

The fuel filter is located inside the frame rail under the driver's door. Clean the fuel filter connections and surrounding area before disconnecting the fuel lines in order to avoid possible fuel system contamination.

Relieve the fuel system pressure. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
Clean the fuel filter connections.
Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter.
Cap the fuel lines in order to prevent possible fuel system contamination.
Slide the fuel filter from the bracket.
Inspect the fuel line O-rings for cuts, nicks, swelling, or distortion. Replace the O-rings if necessary.
If a restricted fuel filter is found, clean the entire fuel system.

Installation Procedure
Slide the NEW fuel filter into the bracket.
Remove the caps from the fuel lines.
Connect the fuel lines (1).
Tighten the fittings to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

Lower the vehicle.
Inspect for fuel leaks using the following procedure:
Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF, for 2 seconds.
Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
Inspect for fuel leaks.

Just behind the throttle body on the fuel rail, there's a schrader valve (like the stem on a tire) sticking up. Remove the cap and relieve the fuel pressure there. There's a test unit with a gauge that connects to the fitting to measure the fuel pressure and relieve the pressure with a lever. It's not recommended, but some people who don't have the gauge, when the engine is cold, just trip the valve and let the small amount of fuel out til the pressure is zero. It's just like letting the air out of a tire til it's flat.

I have a 2002 Silverado 1500, 5.3 engiine with 150k. the motor stalled on me and now it will not stay running. It was low on fuel when the problem started since then I put 3 gals of gas in it. Put still doesnt want to stay running, The check engine light is not coming on, So I dont know where to start. I hear that the fuel pumps cause these symtems when they go bad, It would be great if someone could direct me.
Thank YOU!!

My 2000 Silverado (5.3) has no pressure at the fuel rail (Schrader valve is dry). Pretty sure this is a fuel pump. Best to drop the fuel tank or remove the box? Heard both ways aren't bad. Prior to this the fuel gage bounced from E to Full even with fuel in it. Maybe it was a sign of the pump going becuase I believe the fuel level sending unit is part of the pump. Looking for a video or good pics of replacement procedure. Dealer wants over $600 to repair and he won't say that was it for sure..

I just replaced the fuel pump ($278 for the part). I found it was easier to lift the box. there is 8 bolts that hold the box on, 3 screws to hold the fuel fill nozzle to the box and 3 wire plugs that go the the tail lights. there are tie down hooks in the corners of the inside of the box, I ran chain criss cross to the hooks and lifted with an engine hoist, then rolled the truck forward about 2 feet. it took about an hour and a half.

Stand by you gas tank and have someone turn the key to the on possition. If you hear the pump turn on it is working. If not bang on the tank with a hammer. This may get it to start. It will die again. It is the fuel pump. 2002 silverado - I'm on my third! Carquest has a lifetime guarantee. Lift the box with an engine hoist. 1.5 hours maybe two for the second one.

I have a 2002 chevy silverado 4.8 liter, I think my fuel pump is going out, when I go to start it it turns over but does not start right away it turns over for quite a while before it starts, but if i then turn it off and then start it again it fires right up but if i let it sit it gives me problems. What do you think.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Virgo

Someone is easily angered today, and you'll want to tiptoe around them at every opportunity. They might be on the defensive and imagine that you're getting at them all the time, or they could be quick to point the finger of blame straight at you. It won't be an easy day, but try not to get swept up in the emotional dramas that are swirling around you. They'll only exhaust you.
