2001 Chevy Silverado Transmission

(Auto Transmission) While on the highway my transmission for my 2001 Chevy Silverado will kick out of gear and rev real high then go back into gear. This only happens while in gear 3 or above. While driving in 1st or 2nd gear it acts normal. But the transmission fluid was black, and an aroma of burning fuel was present when i opened the hood. It may only be fluid but id like to get a second opinion. And the burning smell may be the fluid getting low, but my onboard computer would let me know it was low.....

My father and I just took a look under our truck and saw that the area around the transmission is covered in fluid. Probably the transmission fluid i mentioned earlier. But wonderiing if theres a way me and him could find the part where its coming from and maybe seal it up?? Or if we would have to take it to an auto shop.

You may be losing your 3-4th gear clutch packs. GM used weak springs in the design to allow for a softer shift. Unfortunately it causes clutch wear and premature failure. They typically fail between 60,000 and 100,000 miles.

my 2001 1500 silverado 3rd gear failed at 67,000 miles first and second are fine.

i was wondering what tranny i can use instead on the 4L60E in my 2000 silverado Z71 i had this thing rebuilt 4 times in the last 2 years by 2 different shops i just want something to work tired of the $1200 rebuild

I had a 2000 silverado that chewed up transmissions like crazy then went to do the same with the transfercase, u-joints and brakes. thought maby had a bent drive shaft but that wasnt it. I got rid of mine may I suggest you do the same. Im on a 2001 and having trans problems at 80,000. Hopefully this isnt a repeat! GOOD Luck!

How do you find out what transmission is under the vehicle?
I have a 2001 silverado, swb, ext cab, v8, all power, etc.
It won't allow a shift into reverse, at first. But, when it kicks in, it jumps backward. All forward speed okay.

i have a 2001 silverado and my truck wont go into reverse. all the gears shift fine but it shifts hard into first gear but fine the rest the way. but reverse wont work?

i have a 2000 1500 w auto trans ive got 228,000 mile on the factory trans and its just now starting to "chug" up small or large grades in the road wont do it all the time just some my trusty trans guy says the tourqe converter is starting to slip has anybody had this problem he wants to rebuild the transmission.

i have a 2001 chevy 1/2 ton with a 6.0. when i put it in reverse in drops in really hard. on the road, to accelerate any, it has to downshift. i have 140000 miles. is my tranny goin out

to matt....the reason it wouldnt start is because there are key on the flywheel you have to line up with the transmission and if you dont the sensor picks it up and wont let it start

Having transmission problems with my 2001 chevy 1500. I only have 2nd and 3rd gears. Appears to be 1-2 and 2-3 solenoids or pin e on computer. Does anyone have experience with this problem.

Go to 700raptor.com I had them build a level two 4l60e for me 60k ago "awesome" level two is two much trans for my trk. level one should work fine for you, if stock. They also built one for my brother's Z71 I think it was a "stock plus"

Awesome shop they shipped for free in the past.

You won't find more info on transmissions/parts anywhere
