Which brake lights? The ones on the back of the truck, or the brake warning light on the instrument cluster? Besides checking the switch at the brake pedal, don't forget to :

a) check brake fluid level. You may top up the reservoir, but a very small leak in the brake cylinder(rear) of caliper(front) will cause a pressure differential that will set of the warning light in the instrument panel as well.

b) check for proper tension on parking brake pedal. Some models came with a warning switch for when you leave the parking brake set. If the switch is out of adjustment there, it'll turn on that light on the instrument cluster as well.
