This is my first car, Its a 78 Nova with a 1971 307 cid Engine. The engine has a 4 berral carborator that is too big so it has problems at idle, does anyone know the correct CFM for a 1971 307 Cid, and does anyone RECOMEND a corborator or CFM rating?
CFM = Cubic feet per minute (air intake) |

I don't know exactly which one is supposed to be on there without knowing exactly what the car is (like a/c, manual or auto) but i can tell you that it is supposed to have a Rochester 2GC carb on it. Here is a list of the part numbers for all of the possible carb's for that year and motor. 17058102 17058103 17058104 17058105 17058107 17058109 |

Maybe your carb isn't too big for your 307 but might be out of adjustment.Check you choke and make sure it's working properly. If it has a Rochester 4 Barrel it will only be running on the small front primary barrels until the engine needs the rear large secondaries. It sounds like you have some other problem.Could be spark or fuel delivery. If you switch to a 2 Barrel carb. You will either need a adapter plate or different intake.
