I have a 2000 mc ss and sometimes it won't start. I mean it won't make a sound and everything works on it when it does this so I know it's not the battery. After about 15 minutes of trying to start it then it will start. You never know when it is going to do this. Sometimes the security light will come on and stay on and then the next time you start it, it's off. The alarm is turned off but it still does it. Does anyone know if there is someway to bypass the security system?

CHANCES ARE IT IS THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM IN THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER. I HAD A 2000 MONTE THAT DID THE SAME THING AND ALL I DID WAS START USING MY OTHER KEY AND NEVER HAD ANOTHER PROBLEM. IF PROBLEM PERSISTS WITH THE OTHER KEY IT PROBABLY IS THE PASSLOCK SENSOR IN THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER.
BUT TRY CHANGING THE KEY FIRST OR REPLACE THE KEY WITH A NEW ONE FROM THE DEALER!!!! FROM THE DEALER!!! HAVE THEM CUT IT!!!!

I have the same problem lol! I know its the same thing cause before it dies it idles at a super low rpm and sputters to a stop. The security system when activated cuts power to the injectors or something to stop fuel.
Things guy could be right though but its an expensive route!

Hello. I have a 2004 Monte Carlo SS. Just recently, I have experienced my car not starting. I have had ONSTAR do a Diagnostic test from my car, while I am in it, and it comes back fine. What happens is, I go out start car, drive somewhere, no problem. After that stop, I have a 50/50 chance it is going to start. When it doesn't start, my security light flashes on my contol information box on dash. I wait for about 15-20 minutes, try it again, and it starts. Sometimes the light stays on...other times it goes off when I am driving. Sometimes my car starts, but my Security light stays on steady the entire time I drive it, till I shut it off. It usually starts the time after that, and the light is off. It is crazy, because I have these problems at the worst possible times. It is annoying. First, does it hurt the car to drive it like this? Second, whats wrong? Someone recommened battery, but everything works in car except my engine. The lights light up on dash, the radio works, air/heat works, lights work, etc. The only thing is it doesn't start. Please help me with this ASAP. I want to take a trip over Christmas, and want to be able to rely on my car. Thank you to the who can answer this, and help me. What recommendations do you have for me?

sOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A FUEL PUMP GOING BAD OR A BAD FUEL DAMPNER. IF THERE IS A VACUME LINE GOING TO A LITTLE ROUND STEEL CYLNINDER ON THE FUEL RAIL PULL IT OFF AND SEE IF YOU CAN SEE OR SMELL GAS. IF SO REPLACE TIS AND ALL WILL BE GOOD (ABOUT 75 BUCKS). IF THERE IS NO DAMPNER IT IS BUILT INTO THE FUEL PUMP AND THIS WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF THE PUMP ABOUT 300 DOLLARS.

My daughters 96 monte carlo z34 is wanting to stall when she is sitting still at traffic lights etc. It also sutters and then lunges when you apply the gas. Anyone know what this could be? we had a complete tune up about 5 months ago, so I know it isn't plugs, wires etc.

The car stalls out while driving, just sputters, then stalls out. restarts and goes for sometime. This problem just started...today!

I had basically the same problems and then it finally broke down. The mechanic shop replaced the mass air flow sensor and the crank sensor. It started back up but still hard to crank most of the time and not idleing smoothly. Had to pat the gas when trying to crank it. Finally I found some information online that led me to check the fuel regulator and that was my problem all along. So after I spent over $500 I personally figured out the problem and the regulator was only $70.00 at napa. $15.00 at advance auto. I went with the more expensive one. Also chevrolet does have a bulletin out mentioning the fuel regulators. Hope this helps someone and try this before spending too much money. Also the way I checked the regulator is to pull the plastic hose off and see if fuel is blowing back through it or if you smell fuel. This line goes back to the throttle body and shouldn't have fuel in it. I think it's a vacumm line. My regulator had a bad diaphram. Good Luck.

I am having the same problem with my '95 Monte Carlo Z34, Except I think mine might be a little different. I get the chugging problem, doesn't want to accelerate, but only when ALL or ONE of the lights on the dash randomly comes on. Like yesterday I tried to honk my horn, I say tried because when I pressed it, it made and embarrassing beep noise not honk, then my anti-lock light came on and my car started chugging. This happens randomly, sometimes when I use the radio or heater or blinker this happens. There have been times when all lights on the dash (Brake, anti-lock, security ect) have come on. Makes it hard to drive when you can't accelerate, and the brake is also hard to push. We haven't done much. We first thought it was the battery and replaced that TWICE because the car wouldn't start. The car still has the problem and almost every day at random with not starting. When trying to turn it over it just makes a small clicking or ticking sound. Sometimes a jump helps, but I'm finding out that if I sit there long enough and just keep trying to turn it over it will start. What a feak'n pain. ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind I am not a mechanic but I will take all the info to a friend who is trying to help me out.

did you have the fuel regulator replaced in 2004 during the recall. I'm curious because I 'm having stalling problem and had 2 fuel pumps and a crank position sensor replaced and it is still stalling out?

i had the same problem we took it to a alternator shop and they bypassed the secrity chip in the key an wired it up under the dash, literly took the chip out of the key and wired it into the ignition system but it was the cheap fix only 40 bucks, we could have got a new key from the dealer or bought a new key ignition system hope this helps

I have the same problem but I have an 2005 none SS with the 3.4l I have been told it is the ignition modle. I can start it and it will run fine then the it will die.
