If I had the money maybe I would consider purchasing this car. But due to the recession I cannot afford such luxuary.

I am very encouraged with some of their new product. Those guys seem to be turning things around. I suppose becoming humbled might be exactly what GM needed. At any rate, good luck and good job.

If you live in an area that has only surface street driving of at or under 45MPH this car may work. Of course if you are doing any freeway driving it probably will not. If you have the type of driving the volt claims will get you 230MPG get a city think, it's cheaper and will do the same thing for you. |

when they declared bankrupty, that means those "loans" /bailout are not longer valid. More money will be threw at a dead companies to pay for executives salaries and bonuses. Maybe big political donations will be coming in 2010. |

It's actually called the th!nk city. It was originally made by Ford and then sold to a European business group a few years ago. I'm thinking Ford is kicking itself now. |

1 Educate yourself as not to look dense. TOKYO — In six short months, Toyota Motor Corp. collapsed from the world's biggest, most profitable car company to the industry's top quarterly money loser. The roughly $28 billion swing — from record operating profit to loss — was whiplash-fast, but the problems behind it had simmered for years. After 50 years in the United States, Toyota still imports 45 percent of the vehicle it sells there. A decade-long expansion drive added to the automaker's costs. A push to speed new models to market hurt quality, opening the door for rivals. Toyota neglected the compact cars that had made it great in favor of luxury models, large SUVs and pickups. Then it all boiled over. In January to March, Toyota's red ink outpaced the loss at General Motors, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. And Japan's No. 1 automaker warns that things will get worse. Toyota tailspin Globally, Toyota stumbled due to • Neglect of small, affordable vehicles in favor of big, expensive ones • Overreliance on Japan exports • Large exposure to exchange rate shifts • Rapid overseas expansion that added costs, strained resources • Slipping quality ratings http://www.topix.net/autos/2009/08/toyota-rea... |

1 The $40K price for the Volt comes directly from GM. They also described 25 "new" models to come out over the next 28 months, only 2 of which were smaller cars getting more than 30mpg- the redesigned Aveo and the Spark (due 2012- maybe). That means 23 new models that are either large sedans, crossovers, or suvs- NONE of which will get over 30mpg. Bye-bye GM.... |

The Obama’s revolutionary car is just another Obama hoax that cost more than subsidized $40,000 and will be paid by the American tax payers.
It will use high voltage system of 400 vdc that will be too dangerous for most of the Americans that want to stay away from short circuits. After driving one hour or so on the highway, the driver needs to find electrical connector to charge the battery during the next 12 hours. How stupid is that? For more than hundred years all battery powered cars failed except the golf cars because battery of the Volt revolutionary car carry energy equivalent to one or two gallons of gasoline at the most. Would you fill your car with one gallon of gasoline and hit the road if there is no gas station within the next 30 miles? Obviously not. The revolutionary Obama car Volt uses electrical power to charge the batteries that will be made of coal or natural gas power stations causing very high electrical power cost. There are estimated 500 million cars in America and 300 million cars around the world with estimated value of 16 trillion dollars that using gasoline engines which will keep running generation after generation. The Obama's electric car will become major hazard to the driver and the passengers because of 400 volts DC motors and electrical circuits will cause fire hazard and will need special trained mechanics and electricians to maintain the famous Obama’s ‘electrocuting car’. Who will touch the car under the hood when the car is damaged or have short circuit of 400 volt DC? Nobody!!! The Volt electrical car is another Obama’s failed dangerous adventure that will waste more billions of the American people tax money the Obama still need to print. |

i've been a mechanic for over 25 years and i've worked on a lot of different cars. i used to by gms all the time but gm forgot about quality and workmanship and the product has suffered. toyota puts out a better product these days i am sorry to say but hopefully gm will get back to it's roots because i would prefer to buy an american car( and i still may not by a gm if they are going to ship the jobs and manufacturing overseas and not give americans needed jobs)
