I think I might have found it. Go to http://www.gmpartscenter.net/oem_parts.html and search for part number 22698045.

I never could find the stupid thing. If anyone has one that they don't use for a 2004, I would be willing to buy it. [email protected]

Andrea's posting is correct. It is $400 dollars though. I can't find one anywhere (ebay, craigslist, etc...) I guess I'll have to hit a junk yard.

it probably a long shot but rental car companies may have a supply of them that were left over from when they turned in their malibu cars.

check with the major rental car co maintenance facilities at near the airports,

ex rental car co mgr.

Hi Dianne, I dunno if you've found one yet or not but I saw a Maxx at BC Auto Wrecking near Nanaimo on the Island.

I just bought a beautiful low Mileage 2006 Malibu Maxx. The cargo shelf was not with the car. Does anyone know where I might locate one in the San Francisco North Bay area? I would like to buy one.

hey all,
we just bought a 2007 Chevy Maxx LT on Feb. 1, 2011 (9,500 miles, in pristine showroom condition), and it does have the cargo shelf-table.(yes it converts into a Table to use it in a picnic or to use it in a car show for displays. Very interesting.

we like this car very much, it's almost like a Cadillac in that it is very refined with many elegant appointments.

Curiously, it seems that GM copied many features from Jaguar,(I have 2 classic Jaguars, a 1965 and a 1984), one feature is the seat's front-to-back adjusting mechanism,(pure Jaguar), other details like the horn/claxon are also pure Jaguar, as well as the wood details on the dash and doors. And of course, the trunk Table, which is a Jaguar invention since their 1960's Sedans or "Saloons".

We don't understand why the Maxx was discontinued, but a friend who has been involved with GM cars for years told me it was "too expensive to build".)?(
Does that mean we stop building Jaguars because they are so expensive to build?

the shelf-table has a rotating, plastic "leg" at the rear-center which is used as a support when the shelf is used as an extended table.(sticking out from the cargo area, rear hatch left open);

This leg engages the center bottom catch of the hatch door. It keeps the table from being accidentally tripped forward with weight. The shelf can be turned upside down for a nicely carpeted surface, or a plastic catch-all table on the other side which can essentialy hold water. Highly recommended for a day at the beach or the lake.

I have one out of a 2005 Malibu Maxx. My wife traded her car and forgot the shelf-table in our attic. Great condition - not used. Still in the attic.

If the one you have is grey, I am very interested in purchasing for my 2007 Maxx.

for those who have not seen one of the trays as fitted to the Maxx: here is a description:
the tray has two sides, it can be mounted either way; One side is covered with a carpet or "velvety" fabric in the car's interior color, the other side is black plastic, forming a "tray" with high edges to serve as a spill-proof picnic table. The "leg" described in my previous post rotates 360 degrees so it can be used with either side. I have to say again, that this feature was copied from the Jaguar XJ-6 as my Jag has a similar "tray" in the trunk. I keep finding similarities in the Maxx to the Jaguar. Good job GM.

Is this the tray that we are all looking for? Please advise/confirm. I'm looking for something that will block people from looking into the cargo area and to store things in the car (2005 Malibu MAXX LT) since there is no trunk. I hope this serves the purpose. I'm gonna order it (if it's available) and I'll let you all know how it works out.

no, that is a Cargo area MAT. They call it a "tray" because it has elevated edges, but that one just lays on the floor to protect the carpeting.

what you want is the factory CARGO AREA SHELF, also known as a "tray". The factory SHELF will block the view into the cargo area, essentially creating a "trunk"

If you provide an e-mail, I will take a picture of it and send it to you. Too bad we can't attach pictures here.

never mind the e-mail, here is a link to a picture of the adjustable cargo shelf:

http://images.thecarconnection.com/sml/2004_c...

as you can see in the image, the shelf is mounted on the second set of "brackets". If you mount it on the first (TOP) brackets, it will be "flush" with the rear glass. You can also just place it on the floor. Also it is shown with the carpet-side UP, but you can mount it upside down where it becomes a plastic "tray" which will hold a spilled liquid, therefore a "picnic tray". The Maxx Owner's Manual shows all the different positions you can place it.
