I had same problem, can't remember the cause but saw a solution on the net. When this happens, turn your hazard light on, then off and blinkers will then work
Had this problem on my 2001 Impala as well. It ended up being a faulty hazard lamp switch. The part number is: 10359031. MSRP $73.54 ouch! With some light mechanical ability you can replace this part yourself.

I just bought a 2001 chevy impala 3 wks ago. The first day it was fine, then the next day it wouldnt turn on. I take it to my mechanic and starts for him and he cannot find a problem. The security light comes on and the radio has a message that says locked and it wont crank up. Sometimes for 4 hours or more later it will start. I hate this car, right now its back at the mechanics what should i do?

My 2001 Chevy implala has these same problems and it's been happening for about a year (wont't start and the security message going off occasionally but not necessarily at the same time). It's been in the Chevy dealership a couple of times but all they could suggest was to get a new battery, replace the battery in the key lock remote etc. I don't panic anymore when it happens there is a quick fix and it only takes 10 minutes. I beleive something is engaging the security system and even though the manual says you can reset the system in 30 minutes, it can be done in 10 but make sure it's a full 10 minutes or else you have to start the clock again for anyother 10 minutes. And when you start it go to ACC for 5 to 10 seconds and leave it there, then go to start ON for 5 to 10 secons and leave it there, then start and it starts everytime. I also that the blinker problem and if you hit the 4 way flashers on and off the blinker starts working.

I have a 2001 impala and when my security light comes on, I turn the key all the way forward, wait for the radio and lights to come on and turn the key forward again and it start up. I never have to let it sit for so many minutes. Now I'm having problems with my battery draining. I bought a new battery, had the alternator tested, but something is draining my new battery and we can't find the problem. Very frustrated with this car!

My 2003 Impala LS was in the shop last week due to the battery not holding a charge. They replaced the battery, battery cables, battery bolts, and cleaned the ground wire. They also cleaned the connectors to the alternator and checked it as well. Did you have your cables to and from the battery checked for corrosion? Did you have your ground wire checked for corrosion? I have heard there is a problem with the connectors to and from the battery and the ground. The ground wire is possibly not making a complete connection, or you may have some corrosion on the battery cables. Even the slightest corrosion on my 2003 caused the battery to drain and not recharge. The battery also had a bad cell in it and was not charging. When I checked the cables on the battery, I did notice some corrosion but not much. The battery cables have a design that has a plastic part that gets liquid on it from water or liquid splashing up underneath the cable from the battery tray. The dealer cleaned the battery tray on my 2003, installed new battery connector cables, and cleaned the ground. Since then, the car is running fine. Also, there was a whining sound when I turned on my air conditioning. After the cables were replaced, a new battery installed, and the connectors cleaned, the whining sound is no longer in my car when I turn on the air conditioning.

I have seen this problem on 2001-2004 Impala's. Mostly on the base models but there have been some LS models with this problem. You are experiencing parasitic draw on your battery. I have found a number of faulty BCM controllers causing this problem. However, you should take your car to a competent repair technician to check for the cause of the parasitic drain. Something is obviously staying on or powered up and there is a procedure for checking this. Good Luck! Let us all know what your fix was.

I've also heard about the BCM controllers. Last week, my GM dealer checked that as well and said that was not the cause of the problem. Also, I heard the BCM controllers were faulty in some of the Malibu cars manufactured between 1998 and 1999. I've had my battery problems on a former 1999 Malibu I used to own. It failed at 16,000 miles. On my 2003 Impala LS, I have had two batteries now. They seem to last three and a half years and it does not matter what type is used. I went to Autozone and they wanted $149.00 for a battery for my Impala. I decided to go to the GM dealer and they charged $145.00. Gone are the days of the $59.00 Diehard.

For another 135.00, they also checked my car for any signs of trouble and did mention the BCM was ok. They found the ground to be faulty. I agree with Technician R'- take your car to a competent repair facility. I always go to the GM dealer and only use recommended GM replacement parts. GM may cost a little more, but I never have problems with parts that fail that are not OEM quality or GM replacement parts.

I have been having problems starting my car in the cold about 0 degrees farenheit. i have heard that extreme temperatures affecting the body control module (BCM) computer chip. Try waiting 10 minutes after you try to start the car, then try to start again. Also try disconnecting your red (+) wire and then reconnecting it to see if it resets the codes on the chip.If i can fix my problem i will post results and cost of parts.

Good Luck!!

the best thing for all of you with the gm security it o have the dealer remove it . then have a car alarm guy put in a basic alarm . it will save you a lot of problems
the computer that the gm uses tend to go out , most ofthe time , that is what is casing the car not to start . you can try having the computer rebuilt. but this is usally costly. if the car is under warrent , have them remove the built in security , its not needed when you can buy carlarms for 99 bucks and it does the same thing. prevents the car from starting. with out the key
beleive me its worth it , i did it in my 02 durango and have done it for many people w w w dot xtremeimage dot net

When I turn the car off, my radio goes to locked and the trunk release pops open. When I go to restart the car, my automatic tracking is off and has to be turned back on. All this only happens when it is about 78 degrees or more outside. Never happens in the morning or when it is under 78 degrees. Can anyone give me any advice?
Thank you!!

You have to return to the dealer or find someone to do the lock cyclinder to solve this problem. I paid 435 at the dealership on my 2003 Chevy Cavalier
