My 2001 Impala has full battery and is not starting. When I put the key on, the radio code display says CAL ERR. What does this mean? And yes, I made sure the car was in park.

I have a 2001 Impala LS and the security message light comes on, then battery picture, then service engine soon message and they keep repeating, at the same time this happens, the air conditioning stops blowing cool air. When I turn the car off, my radio goes to locked and the trunk release pops open. When I go to restart the car, my automatic tracking is off and has to be turned back on. All this only happens when it is about 78 degrees or more outside. Never happens in the morning or when it is under 78 degrees. Can anyone give me any advice?
Thank you!!

try testing the ignition switch and if that doesn't work take a look at the relay.

If your security light is flashing, wait 10 minutes..till it stays on solid, then turn off and restart engine. Your tamper security feature was armed. I have the same problem and they say, currently, it'll cost $300. Not my answer to this.

I have a 2001 Impala LS w/224,000 KM. My problem started several months ago one morning I noticed my trunk had opened. I stopped to have a coffee and when I came out the trunk had popped again. This time I sat in the car & approximately 10 minutes later I hear the trunk pop again. This would happen about every 10 - 15 minutes. This was causing the battery to drain. I brought it into several garages but they could not find any shorts. Also, none of my Interior lights would go on if the doors were open. I physically had to push them on manually.

I now have disconnected the trunk release trying to save the battery. But there there still is a higher draw from the batttery (Normal .7) Mine (1.0-1.2)

They thought it could be one of the control modules but its a $500 -$1000 job (part & Labour) and may not be the problem. I also had the car not start on several occassions. It was thought to be the starter which I replaced but it happened again several weeks later.

If I disconnect the battery the reconnect on some occassions the interior lights will go on for the first start up only.

I also had the thermostat run cold for several weeks. I replaced the thermostat but its been iffy.

Any suggestions are welcome

I have a 2005 Impala LS, I took my car in because I was having problems with the cd player skipping, they replaced the radio, and now it say "CAL ERR" everytime I turn on my car. I think this may have something to do with the Anti-Theft security settings. I'm scheduled to take the car in this weekend to have them look at it, if they tell me what caused it, i'll post the results.

I've been having the same problem: replaced starter, drained battery, and even the alternator, and it still doesn't want to start sometimes and it even misfires on occasions to the point of shutting off by itself. If anyone has any kind of solution, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have the same problem with my 2001 Impala, but only once every couple of months. If I let the car sit for 45 minutes or an hour, the car starts with no problem.

Possibly a related problem, the blower works only intermittently (I have to hit the dash Fonzie-style just above the ash tray to get it to work) and sometimes the air conditioning won't engage. The security light comes on from time to time for no reason. Cruise control sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I don't have an anti-theft device and this car has never had one.

I'm just not sure what to do, and my mechanic is stumped since he can't get the car to NOT start. He says everything tests fine. Any ideas would be appreciated: [email protected]

the computer ground wire is faulty. Mine did the same thing, had the ground wire replaced and it is fine now.
