Anyone have any instruction for changing the spark plugs on an 00 Impala 3.4 V6? Location? Difficulty? Best brand of plug?
To change the plugs on the back side next to the fire wall, you rotate the engine forward slightly by disconnecting the two front upper engine mounts. On one of the two upper mounts is a slot to temporarily reconnect the engine mount bolt thus holding it in a forward position and providind adequate rear access to the plugs. Prior to rotating the engine, usually with a crow bar, you must apply the parking brake and place the car in neutral.

NGK's are good and you don't even need the iridiums.

I'm looking for that same answer, do you have it?
Usually, you can pick up a set of pliers that fit around the spark plug heat shields.

I used a pair of channel-locks to grip the metal tubes that surround the rubber boots to pull them loose. On the back 3, I gripped the tube with the pliers.....then used a pry bar between pliers and the head to pop then loose. I was told that there is a special boot pull tool available for this, but my method worked for me.
This worked like a charm on my 2002 Grand Prix. Thanks for the post.

As for removal of the spark plug shield, look for a KENT MOORE J-39294 SPARK PLUG BOOT PULLER 3800 on ebay.

There is a pliers-type tool you can buy at a parts store or you can do whay this guy did:

I just got done doing my wifes 2003 Impala. I removed the brace which runs from the pass. side to the drivers side. did not have to remove the upper motor mounts. I had a heck of a time removing the spark plug wire,so I broke the old spark plug off by using a 3/8" extention with a crows foot attached [this let the crows foot to go back toward the head ]. I simplely broke the end of the spark plug off with the plug wire still in place, then I removed the plug from the cylinder head. The heat shield slides off the spark plug boot for easy removal of the top end of the spark plug. This saved me a lot of time. only took 45 min. to change the back 3 plugs. I learned this the hard way the first time around. Hope that this helps.

If you had bothered to read my post three posts above this one you wouldn't have had to post.

I know this is an old thread, but needing help. I recently had my plugs changed, at the time didn't have money for the wires. I have the wires now, and the same reason I had someone else change the plugs, I cannot get the wires to release from the plug. I've been getting lots of hesitation fromthe engine, with everything suggesting plugs or wires, but don't have money for a shop again ($150 to pull and put the new ones on....no.)

Ive grabbed pliers, boot puller, turned the boot, and anything else and they will not release. I know all about rotating the engine, removing this and that if needed and have small enough hands I don't have to do that other than for comfort. I just need tricks on how to get the stupid thing to let go...any suggestions other than breaking the plug and replacing it all? They are expensive plugs.

This is true I tried every other way. But there's a tool that made it pretty easy. It replace one of "dog bones" in front of the engine, once installed you remove the other one then screw the tool to pull the engine 3 or 54 inches forward and you can reach them.
