to remove the back plugs i would suggest you just remove the coolant overflow tank that gives you enough room to reach your hand around and get them. just did this on my 2003 impala and it worked fine, hardest part is getting the boots off they are a pain in the ass but dont give up

if u remove the frt top motor mount bushings.
only 2 bolts in rubber, u can pull the motor
to frt about 2 inches then any combination of
std .375 ratchet and extentions will fit.
done it myself 3 times w/ 110k on car.
seperate note..i have 00 impala that perioditcly
shuts off while driving .
no warning or code or lights?
stop for 20 min or so and car starts and runs fine
everything normal has been replaced in car .
i have a ghost in the car?
I had this same problem and my ignition coil has been changed, problem gone!

Hey i just changed my spark plugs and wires today. I have a 3.4 2003 chevy impala. GM recommends iridium spark plugs.
I dont think it was to bad. i simply put a pillow over the engine passenger side to cushion my knees! That the side your plugs are. First one, right behind and under your alternator. Slide hand down and feel where all the wires are so you can get a feel of where they are located. 3&5 are side by side about 9" to the right from 1. you just need a swivel socket 5/8 the special one with the rubber that holds the spark plug, Rachet, and a long extention.if spark plugs are tight use a pipe for levrage! To pull out the cable you just need some balls to grab and yank out! no need for pliers! just dont pul it from cable! firmly grab the rubber and pull out! to put plugs in a simple little mirror will do the trick! its all just common sense!

I have an 03 Chevy Impala 3800 v6. I also have easy access to 1 3 5 but really have no clue how to do these "easy" tricks to accessing the back ones. My check engine light came on flashing at first and is now on steady. OBD2 test comes back as P0301 (cylinder 1 misfire). Would just changing the front 3 be hazardous to doing just right now until my next paycheck (I get paid monthly) because I can barely make it up a hill right now. Any diagram or step-by-step instructions would be so very useul! Please send to [email protected]
Thank you!!!

Yes, a diagram for the 2000 impala plug change would be helpful. ALSO - do you need to do them one at a time, or is there an order to do them in???
Thanks

If you are replacing plugs, go ahead and replace the plug wires. Remember to only take one wire off at a time, so as not to get confused, but then you can really pull it by the boot and not worry about hurting the old wire. I just bought a set of wires today for $16.00. I didn't move the motor and got new plugs and wires on with my 3/8 rachet and two 3" extensions. It was a pain in the butt not moving the motor or taking off coil packs, but it was do able.

I have a 2002 Impala, but the spark plugs are in ONE line, easy to reach on top. Seems like everyone else has two rows of plugs. What gives? Do I have a mutant? Is this a different engine or was GM testing something?

Guys,

I owned a 2003 3.4 impala. 250.000 MILES and counting. The rear spark plu(1,3,5) can be reached by removing the coolant reservoir. Then, removing the serpentine belt and finally removing the alternator. Make sure the negative cable is disconnected FIRST. I have done it twice every 1000.000 miles. EASY
