My Moms 02' is starting to miss, Or run really sluggishly at idle. There is an odd smell, A burning smell. Not electrical, coolant or oil burning smell, Kind of an exhaust burning smell. My Uncle says it might be the catalytic converter stopping up. The check engine light is on and I dont know how to check the codes on these newer cars. Is there an easy way to check the codes? Thanx.

I have a 2002 impala ls the security light and the battery light and sometimes the service engine soon light will come on and blink. The car runs fine but, I was told that the bcm or the passlock system may cause the car to not start as theft deterrant. What can be done to fix this problem?

My problem is my 2002 Impala randomely dies on the road. Won't re-start for few seconds and then does eventually. Took in 3 times to dealer and never any error codes. They finally convinced me it was the fule pump.$945 later and still having the same issue. Any ideas?

Our 2000 Impala igniton switch is not working...supposively its the ignition switch, I mean the key won't turn at all. It's stuck at work, and it as just replaced a few months ago at a dealership with no problem charging over $500

Just bought a 2001 Impala LS for the kids, did not come with a owner's manual. How do I program the automatic garage door opener?

If the key doesn't turn, it's not the ignition switch itself.....it is the ignition lock cylinder. They are two separate parts.

Some 2002's had faulty fuel pressure regulators. If if it indeed a fuel problem, you need to have the fuel pressure regulator replaced with the newer model part. GM is aware of the problem. If it is NOT a fuel problem, I'd say the car has a faulty crankshaft position sensor, although this should show up as an error code.

I'm pretty sure you need a new BCM. Mine was $375 parts and labor. I don't know why some people are being charged $600.

You can buy an OBD 2 code reader. The basic ones are $80-$100 in a retail store. You can get one for $30-$40 from an eBay shop.

If your battery is good, but you still need a jumpstart to start the car, I'd say the capacitor in the Body Control Module is dead or near-dead. A bad capacitor can keep the car from starting even when the battery is good. It would be hard to change the capacitor by itself unless you can find someone good at
circuit board repair. You might eventually need a new BCM.

Has anyone car acting like it was getting ready to shut off but it turns around and pick up speed. It does this on and off while you are driving

I have never had starting problems with my own car. However, a friend fixed her problem by replacing the alternator. The guy at advance told her that the alternator was just too small for the engine. Hopefully this might help someone.

I have two 02 ls's .One runs great, the other is the problem child. Recently I am losing top end power and the car breaks up at 3900 rpm. If I nail it under that the responce is weak and will eventually break up. tried new fuel filter, some restriction ,but the new one had no marked improvement.also tried cleaning map sensor and connections. Now looking at posts and wondering about converter or pressure regulator . any input welcome.

Jamie_ I just went through the same thing with my 01 LS! All I did was put ina brand new battery adn since then I have had NO problems! It is the first thing I would do! It is probley the cheapest too! Good Luck!

Haven't had any problems or any warnings or any kind, and then this morning the car won't start. Made lots of weird clicking noises. I figured the battery was dead and had someone try to jump it, but while it did turn on interior lights and give it some power, the engine would not turn over, just making some strange sounds.
Is the battery just completely dead or is there still hope if I replace the battery myself. Wanted some advice before I have to pay for a tow truck. Thanks

Had the same problem with my 02. Turned out chevy made some bad catalytic converters that year. Have that checked. It seemed to be the problem on mine, now it runs like a dream.

I have a 2004 impala with 25000 my turn signals and hazard quit flashing. Turn signals will work if I manually click them. Anyone else with this problem.
Also my starter sometimes delays. Takes longer to start than usual, took it to the dealer and it would not do it. They said I had to leave it for 4- days to see if it would act up. any suggestions?
