Havent replaced this switch yet, but now no turn signals and no brake lights on except for trunk brake light. Any one had any similar problems and can lead me to a solution?

I've had two people tell me that the system can be reset by switching the hazard lamps on and off 3 or 4 times. I wish could recall if it was 3 or 4 but I don't. The other thing I'm not sure of Is whether or not the ignition key should be on or off. I would try it both ways.

I can't help you with your problem but I can tell you the same thing is happening to my car. I just purchased a 2004 Chevy Impala in December 2006, the turn signal stopped working. Replaced the fuses and bulbs still doesn't work. There is another fuse that is near the hazard fuses under the dash. Does anyone know about that?

My turn signal some times works and not. The dealer said there is a switch under the dash but don't know where.]

I also have been having the intermittent blinker failures on a 2002 Impala. I am willing to try cleaning the switch. Any help locating this switch would be extremely helpful. Please email me at:

Replacing the multifunction swith is last, last, last resort. The switch is in the steering column, where the turn signal lever goes in and on the otherside where the wipers lever goes in. It's a b**** to get to. Lots of funky placed screws, don't try to take off the steering wheel to get to it. Hitting the hazard lights 3 or 4 times doesn't reset it. It may make it work if you wiggle the hazard light switch around a bit. If this causes the brake lights to go on and off(remember to have someone watch your tail lights while you are stepping on the brakes and jiggling the hazard light switch) then it means the multifunction switch IS actually wearing out for sure. If not, I would try replacing the Brake Light Relay fuse in the fuse box under the hood, usually a large rectangular fuse that fits into several of the fuse slots. You need to check your owner's manual to find the correct one. Those are cheap to replace and can get them at AutoZone or other parts places for under $10. If you do have to replace the multifunction switch, don't go to the stealership, call them for the part number and do an online search for it to see what kind of prices you can find, and go to a good mechanic to get estimates of what it would cost to just install the part, and what it would cost for them to get the part and install. Might save yourself $100. Or just go balls out and do it yourself. A deployed airbag in your face might change your mind though. But ya, wiggle the hazard light switch a couple million times and see if that works first. If it does you know what the problem is, and wiggling is a nice, cheap temporary fix.

I also just read that it could be the hazard light switch itself. Same wiggling and/or pushing in and out technique to determine. That's a $50 part. Try that before replacing multifunctional switch as well. That's a DIY thing too, Google it.

My 2004 Interior console lights go out a dusk, my headlights work, but my tail lights don't. I can't drive at night. I've spent over $400, trying to get ix fixed - the last time it lasted 72 hrs. Anybody got any suggestions, its getting dark earlier each day. I have gone to the dealer yet.

Eric, check around your battery if the battery acid leaked out. It may have leaked on the wiring harnass just under your battery and wicked up the harnass causing corroision in the circuit. If so you will have to replace that harnass, its about 700 bux plus labor.

I know for a fact that my battery acid leaked out and caused some issues starting the car, about that same time I started having the blinker problem. Shortly latter my moon roof started working only when it wanted to. Sometimes it would open and then not shut. Could this be related to the same wire problem. Sorry if this sounds stupid. Any suggestions would help!

Turn signals and hazard lights would not flash on my 2004 Impala, but all lights would come on steady. Pressed the hazard switch rapidly about a dozen times and everything started to work.

i have a 2001 impala. i know several ppl whos impala turn signals would work intermittly. i replaced the hazard switch myself for 50.00 and that fixed the problem. i saw that the malibu had a manufacure recall for the same hazard switch BUT, not for the imapla. I posted a complaint on the national highway association web site. Any one who has the same problem should complain to initate a recall.

I have a 2001 impala and the same problem as everyone else. My blinkers will randomly stop working. When i push the hazard lights on and off 3 or 4 times the blinkers start to work again. I was also quoted $405 for a replacement switch on Thursday Oct. 11th. The dealer told me that the part was on a national back order so they couldnt install it anyway. There must be thousands of people having the same problem if they are on a national back order. I will go to the national highway association website and push for a recall. FOr now, I am still using the hazard lights to make my blinkers work.

I have the same turn signal problem with my 2002 Impala. When they don't work, I press the hazard lights on, then off, then try the turn signal again and it works. I don't know how long I'll be lucky, but am not looking forward to another bill for yet another Chevy Impala electrical repair...
