head rest too tall especially center one creates blind spot, very annoying when driving in heavy traffic or backing out

I just purchased a 2011 Impala about two weeks ago and I hate this car. All of the headrests in the back are too high creating many blind spots. To get an idea of what it is like, stuff a camel in your backseat and drive around with it. I feel very unsafe driving this car and would not recommend it to anyone.

small mirrors and terrible rear vision causes by the big head rest means you cross your fingers every time you need to know what is behind you. You cannot see traffic in the rear as it approaches close by. This is a dangerous car.

I have the same complants first if you go to the general motors site you can email a complaint, 2nd make a complaint to the national safety consol you'll need your vin # FOR BOTH SITES, 3rd make a complaint withyour dealer make sure they make your complaint in writing and give you a copy this way its on record ,this isn't a fix but it will help until maybe if enought people complain and get a recall, next ok take your mirror and take the arm its attached to push it as far up as you can, then adj your mirror its much better I know how annoying it is . last but not least if you have an auto uplostery shop near its very easy to remove the rear seat the bottom pulls out and the back rest is held on by 2 bolts, if i don"t hear something about my complaint I'm going to take the rear seat and have the centter head rest removed but it will have to be done in a shop I really don't think it should cost a lot especially if you or some one you know can remove the rear seat back and take it to the shop they will remove the cover take a bolt cutter to remove the center head rest frame install some new foam rubber and sew a new section of fabrick on the seat. when you look at other GM cars buick cadillac they don't have them as hi or some don't even have the middle head rest , another thing you can do is call a local auto salvage yard and get the rear seat back rest from an 06 thru a 10 they don't have the hi head rests , hope this helps , remember the sweeky wheel gets the oil.

This is my fourth Impala so I bought the 2011 without driving it. What a suprise to find that Government Motors has made the back seat headrest so large that it severely limits the view out the back. I have removed the rear seat until I can find a replacement from a salvage yard.

Thank all of you so much for your comments about the back seat headrests for the 2011 Impala. We are/were contemplating purchasing a new Impala, but with your input about the rear seat headrests, we won't. The back seat headrest problem was the first and foremost thing that turned us off about the Impala and now we will not buy one. I called the dealer and asked if the rear seat backrest of a 2010 would fit in the 2011 and they said they could not help because they have different part numbers - duh! We also thought of taking the backrest to an upholstery shop. Some of them do an excellent job! Thanks again.

I PURCHASED A 2011 IMPALLA , AND BELEIVE ME I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHEVROLTE. THE BACK SEAT HEAD RESTS ARE SO HIGH IT IS VERY HARD TO SEE TRAFFIC, BEHIND ME. THIS INCLUDES DRIVING OR BACKING UP.I HAVE CONTACTED THE CO I PURCHASED IT FROM AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME. THIS IS JOSEPH CHEVROLETE. ANOTHER CO I WILL NOT BUY FROM ANY MORE AND I WILL TELL ALL THE PEOPLE NEVER TO BUY FROM THIS CO.
I DO THINK CHEVROLET SHOULD REPLACE THE BACK SEATS WITH A SAFETY TYPE SEAT. ALSO THIS IMPALLA IS THE WORST RIDING CAR, YOU FEEL EVERY BUMP ON THE ROAD.

All of you must be shorter than 5' tall or know nothing about adjusting mirrors. I have a 2003 and 2011 Impala and there is absolutely no rear vision problem with either car. Although the side mirrors are smaller on the '11, I have mine set to have essentially no blind spots.

Sit on a pillow or learn how to set your mirrors.

JAMES, you must be short in brainpower. I'm 5'10 and STILL can't see, REGARDLESS of how the mirrors are adjusted. Try sitting in one; THEN judge.

You accuse me of being short on brainpower, yet you can't even see that I said I own an '11.

If you can't figure out how to adjust the mirrors in the Impala, please stay out of SUVs and convertibles, because those vehicles really do have issues with blindspots.

James was born with X-Ray vision it seems. For the rest of us, its the most accident waiting to happen car I've ever been in.

I own a 2011 Impala and agree that the side mirrors and rear windshield could use a litte more surface area, however this has never been a problem in my opinion. I am just under 5'8", and while I can certainly notice the rear center headrest in the rearview mirror, it is in no way blocking my view of the rear. I focus more on the fact that these huge headrests will help to prevent whiplash in rear impact scenarios. It was mentioned that the Impala has a poor ride quality. That statement couldn't be farther from the truth. It may be less than perfect compared to a 7-series or an S-Class but nonetheless the Impala has a very smooth, comfortable ride. What I have found is that you will HEAR the bumps, not feel them, making it seem like they are worse than they are. IMO the Impala is a very fine car for the money paid. And no I don't work for GM, I'm only eighteen years of age.

I recently purchased a 2011 Impala. My previous car was a 2001 Impala. I did notice my side mirrors are a little smaller but have not noticed that they affect what I see or don't see. Also, the back headrest can be seen in the rearview mirror but they do not seem to be excessively big in the mirror and I have no problem seeing behind me. I am wondering if the fact that I have the seat in the highest position because I am short makes a difference? It really shouldn't unless you are short and keep the seat low. I also find that the 2011 has less of a blind spot than my 2001 did.

The 3 very tall headrest`s on the rear seat are RIDICULOUS. We test drove an 08 and then ended up buying a brand new car instead thinking they were basically the same car. Other than that the only problem we have had is tires out of balance and i think they have busted belts. The dealership acts like i am stupid because they cant feel anything wrong but they added 5 ounces of wheel weights to one tire----BAD TIRE! and i`m quite sure that tire will fail very soon!

I am 5'10 I have a 2011 Chevy impala / I can not see out the back window / I have adjusted the seat , and that is a waste of time / the Head rest in the back middle , blocks my view / I have called my Dealer Pine Belt Chevy and they will not help me , Have called the Chevy Customer Hot line / they will not help me
We need to start calling the main Headquarters and ask for the CEO Dan Akerson / we buy american cars in order to help build Jobs and Chevy treats us like we are the problem/ they did not mind cashing my check
