Disconnect the battery. Harbor freit sells a quick disconnect for the battery if you get frustrated enough it will be worth it.

I have the same problem with my wife's 2003 Impala, i went into the system and tried to correct it, but we still need to use the remote to open the car and then she will start. I can't figure out a way to correct this problem. I'll try the battery disconnect tomorrow and let you know.

to bypass or reset the security system turn the key to the on position and wait 10 minutes... the security light should stop flashing... then turn the key off for 5 seconds and then restart the car. the problem is in the tumbler itself and to fix the problem you will need to replace the tumbler.

I had the smae problem with my 2002 Impala. The 10 minute wait trick worked for a while then once I wasn't able to start it for three days. Each morning I tried to start the car and it wouldn't. Finally, after taking it to my mechanic, not the dealership, it started. It's started everytime since. What a pain in the ass. I called Chevy and have been getting the run around. No wonder Toyota is kicking GM's ass.

Having the same problem right now with my 2001 Impala. This only has 41K miles on it, bought used in 2004 because of low mileage/good condition. Ten minute wait does not work, pulling the PCM fuse under the hood trick does not work, NOTHING WORKS! This sucker is dead, just dead, and right now I cannot even pay for the tow due to unemployment. In my present mood this car would make an excellent bonfire in front of the GM Building! Will dealerships pay for this if there is only a Technical Service Bulletin out, and no recall?--Screwed in the Peoples Republic of New York

This week my 2002 Chev Malibu would not start - theft signal was flashing. I did the waiting for 10 minutes at the advice of my tow truck driver and it started right up. This same problem happened to me last year and I was told by a dealership it's the Passlock sensor. I had it replaced last year at a cost of $569 CDN because I didn't know about the 10 minute trick, although this isn't a fix according to GM, but the "trick" is in the owner's manual. Had this problem happened to me next week it would have cost me AGAIN because the warranty on the part and labour would have run out (after 1 year). I called GM this week and they don't care. Just got the part replaced AGAIN this morning - at least it was under warranty. So I have to hope when it goes again it's within a year so I won't have to pay AGAIN. This is a common problem with GM vehicles and there should be a recall. I'm thinking of going to another automaker. I've been a loyal GM customer for years. I would get rid of my car right now except that it's only got 45k kilometres and bought out the lease last year. It's practically new.

I have a 2002 impala that wont start. when I turn the key the radio reads that it is locked. I pulled the 10 amp fuse for the bcm module located on the drivers side and re-installed it until the radio is unlocked, then turn key to off position, and then start the car. Im still working on trying to figure what causes this if I figure it out I will post it.

Everything has happened to me like all of you. The 10 minute thing workes but I'm starting to have to wait anywhere from 10 minutes to 4 hours. I spent 500 bucks to get it fixed and it is almost a year since.

Sitting in Luverne, MN right now with a 2002 Chev Impala that won't start in the parking lot. Tired of the security system error. I'll wait ten minutes and try again. Fortunately it is July and not January.

I have the same no start problem on my 2001 Impala. The engine will not crank. Do any of you experience a no crank as well, or does it crank with no-start?
