Consumers decide what to drive, it's called free enterprise. Choices like safety, economy, size, performance and price should be left up to buyers. CAFE standards should be market driven. Consumer demand will determine what automakers build. Government doesn't need to interfer. Lower speed limits, more tax credits for high mileage cars, are better short term solutions. Aerodynamics play a big role in economy results. A Geo Tracker with a 4cylinder engine weighs half as much as a 8 cylinder Suburban, both get 20mpg. Power to weight ratio is a big factor in mileage results, not size. Limo's for politician's should be off limits. Practice what you preach.

Hello
I sympathize with you and support free enterprise however the government has been given the duty of the highway system in this country which means each level of gov't can add traffic lights for safety, improve roads, plow the snow off roads, etc. The top level of gov't, the feds, have the responsibility of telling the Car makers what safety equipment must be present, seat belts, airbags, etc. They have just gone one step forward with this other nonsense about CAFE standards which is very political as you can see. They do not apply to SUV's and light trucks!
We can stop them...just stop voting in the do-gooders!!
