I had the same problem. After trying everything I got the car up to about 30-40 mph and shut it off while driving. For whatever reason this worked as I braked to a stop, put it in park, and removed the key from the ignition.

We finally found a solution to this key problem after years of putting up with it. Underneath on the steering column is a little square plastic piece that pops out with the help of a screwdriver. If you look up in there (awkward, but doable), there is a white plastic piece that has a little button on the end of it on the right hand side. If you push this button in to the left, the key pops right out. With a few minutes of practice I am now able to reach up there with my left hand index finger, locate and push the button, and remove the key instantly with my right hand.

The problem is not that the spark plugs are cracked but the spark plugs are arching. This will cause a black line in the spark plug and it will look like its cracked but its not. There has been a problem with this on these trucks. GM has a specail warranty to replace the spark plug wires (causing the arching across the spark plugs) and to replace the bad spark plugs. Your local Chevy dealership will replace the spark plug wires with a new design at no charge to you. Here is the bulletin number for this issue. The warranty is good for 10 years or 199k miles

first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service,
regardless of ownership. Dealers are to replace all spark plug wires
and, if necessary, the spark plug. The repairs will be made at no charge
to the customer. For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all
eligible claims with repair
orders on or after January 5, 2011, are covered by this special coverage
and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with
this bulletin. Claims with repair orders prior to January 5, 2011, must
be submitted to the Service Contract provider.

2006 Equinox LT been in and out of garage 3 x this week. Wires replaced, spark plugs to! Engine light was flashing last week and sputtering running very back to dealer and they said #2 misfired 15000 times on test drive and new plugs new wires and still no better. They are stumped. Now have to bring it back again and they are going to check the fuel converter they just don't know what is wrong with it. I have 110000 miles and just bought 4 tires and spent over $750.00 on brake pads, serpentine belt, and other minor issues. So was hoping it would last but, this is just getting very costly. The dealer first put a piece of black electrical tape on wire #2 and charge me $143.00 Just want it to run so disgusted. Does anyone drivers door make a loud noise when you open it?

I have an 2006 malibu 2.2l LT automatic doing the same thing. no check engine light, sputtiring at 60-70 mph under load and rpm goes up to 5k or higher and loses power. Changed the plugs, and the issue still persists. it is a bit better, but still happens, and only happens between 60-70 mph. other than that the car drives great. any thoughts???? Such a strange issue.

I had the same problem with my 2009 chevy equinox. The mechanic wanted to charge 300 fix. New spark plugs and wires. I had my neighbor fix instead. Napa auto parts platinum plugs $4.68 per plug. 6 plugs total. The mechanic wanted to charge $24. Per plug. Wires were $35. Mechanic was going to charge double. Plugs take a 1-1/2 to change wires literally ten minutes. Don't waste money at a mechanic. Mechanic was going to charge 1.6 hours at $98 dollars an hour. Do your homework. I am a pregnant woman with a husband who knows nothing about cars. No extra cash. Don't waste your money. My car runs great now.

My 2008 ImpALA 3.9 Sputters occasionally and or pulsates slightly slower or faster when at constant speed 35-45. No check engine lite? Is this plugs and wires? 75k miles

I just found this website, and so glad I did, as I couldn't figure out the problem with my 2007 equinox with 58,000 miles. The car sputters only when accelerating occassionally over 30 mph up to 60 mph. Never in low or 2nd gear, when starting out. At first I thought is was weak gas, then the fuel pump, then the torque converter. Check engine light doesn't illuminate. taking the car to the dealer tomorrow morning and will refer to this topic, to try for a warranty repair. much obliged to everyone here

I have an 07 equinox and I had a sputter in lower rpms. I replaced the spark plugs and it fixed the problem and it ran smoothly. The spark plug on cyclinder was cracked in the proceline and caused it to ground out.

so i have the same issue and have spent several hundreds of dollars to try and fix and then i found this site ...thanks to all of you for the input but they refuse me at every turn to fix this issue.... so i am again faced with another high out of pocket repair ...i even called gm at 1-800-222-1020 and was told that they have not been enough reported cases to cause a recall on the spark plug wires if you paid out of pocket or if it was for some reason covered please call and report so they can recall...i will hopefully get new plug wires wednesday and this does correct my problem but am heart broken over my chevy being so much trouble

My wife's 2008 started missing too. I installed new plug wires, and it got worse. Found plug wire #6 was bad out of the box. Put the old #6 wire back on, better. Still have the miss in high gear under load though. The engine light came on, but went off. I read the OBD2 code that were stored, got multiple engine misfires. Going to try changing plugs next. Wish me luck!
