I bought my 08 Equinox 14 months ago and I too am having the same problem with the air conditioning. It goes from cold to warm and they can never "duplicate the problem". Once they fixed a switch and said it should be fine and sure enough I'm back in a couple days later. I have been in contact with a GM District Specialist who is just as worthless as the dealership. I am so disappointed with gm. I once was a loyal GM owner and now will be purchasing elsewhere if I can ever get rid of my lemon.

Wow I am so happy to see I am not the only one with these same issues!!! I purchased my '06 Equinox new in spring of 2006 from a Chevy dealership in ND. Moved back to California in the fall and had no reason to use my air for a few months. Come summer my a/c starts sending this white fog out of the vents and the vent becomes covered in condensation. On some occasions frozen flecks of condensation will also blow out of the vents. Then hot air. I took it to the Chevy dealership in Fullerton CA (P.S. if anyone here is local DO NOT take you vehicle there!) I was treated like crap by the service department manager who laughed at me and told me that the air won't feel as cold during the summer because of the heat outside. No sh*t sherlock. But I have NO cold, or even cool, air. I have to wait until evening to take trips to Palm Springs because I can't take the air not working in 120+ temps. Chevy, of course, claims they could not duplicate the problem. I am so frustrated with this. This is the first vehicle I have purchased new and I am just sick that this is happening. Anybody get any updates??

OCCalif,

I live in Temecula, CA and own a 2008 Equinox. I have had issues with the AC ever since I drove off the lot. I have brought it to the delaership 8 times. They were able to duplicate it but they told me that is how the car is designed. The air goes to hot so the AC lines to not freeze. I filed a complaint with the BBB and went to arbitraiton with GM. I did not win because the arbirtrator did not think that it was that significant enough to call it a lemon. When I drove in the car with the arbirtrator it was hot and the AC went from cold to hot right away. He was an idiot. Anyways I am still stuck with the car and I am going to keep bringing it back to the dealer until they fix it. I am glad GM is having a hard time I hope they go out of business. They have been kiving the big life for so long it's time they see how it is as a consumer and have to deal with crap like this. I have owned 8 Chevy vehicles and I will never buy another one.

Sarah,

We have an 06 Equinox and the AC stops working anytime the outside temp gets over 78. We've had the car to several dealers and they just tell us it's fine. Please let me know if the hat/air controller works.. Thanks

I have an '07 Equinox. I sent it to the shop for the third time today. It seems to go from cold to warm and back and forth. Also, the blower seems to kind of lose blowing power (although it doesn't completely die). The first time I took it in, they said the coolent fluid was low and added some but couldn't find a leak. Second time I guess they thought I was just crazy. Today, I took it in (but to a new service advisor) and he said "They found the problem". Apparently it's the heat/air controller. The part should be in soon - we'll see what happens.

Oooooooh Barry... be prepared... I ended up going into arbitration with the Better Business Bureau and GM after EIGHT TRIPS to the dealership to find out what was wrong. They ended up sending me to a different dealership and they were able to fix it on the second try - it was the blower motor. It's been working just fine since then. They kept trying to tell me (along with a lot of other Equinox owners on this thread) that "It was the way they were made" which is total BS. There are MULTIPLE documented cases with GM about this issue. GM needs to get their act together. Best of luck to you.

On a side note everyone, I also started getting a moldy smeel in my Equinox and discovered standing water in my spare tire well. I found another thread here on topix with others having the same exact issue.

I have a 2008 equinox with the same cooling issues as many of you. I've learned to live with that. I am wondering if any of you have experienced the blower motor fluctuating speed when on #3 or #4 fan settings. It sounds like it drops 1 fan speed and does this repeatedly while driving very rapidly. I am a service advisor at a chevy dealer and I'm being told it's a normal characteristic. Do any of your vehicles do this, and have you had it resolved?

Hi Gary -
That is EXACTLY what I was experiencing with my '07 Equinox (along with the air just not being cool). They replaced my blower motor and (knock on wood) it's been working great.

you should get the front windows tinted darker. it will make a world of difference. i did it and my car is cooler then ever. as a matter of fact it gets really cold to where you would want to turn the air down. oh yeah if you get your car tinted, get the strip in the front, it makes the car look really cool

everyone with this prob with ac. if you hook manifold guages up to your ac you wil see what i saw. 55 on the low side and 155 on the high. i did what they say they did for you i evacedmy system and recharged it no change. so i went for my h block second i took propane tip the bottle upside down to get liquid drops on my h block and it responded like it should have so the i took temp reading on the lines and no signs of a restriction in the lines and the electrical was fine so it was my compressor. the reason you are getting cold air down the road but not at idle is cause the compressor is failing and it is not getting enough psi to the system change it and charge to spec and you will be fine do not take gms crap about that is normal cause my system puts 35 degree air aout the vents as should yours

Hi Everyone,

I'm pretty much the same problems as everyone else. Although, I have an 05 Equinox and just started having this problem, 4 years later. I get cold air for a little while, then turns warm. I turn it off for a few minutes and back on then it will be cold again (cold enough to turn up the temp) and then I start to see white fog coming out of the vents. And, it all starts over again. I'm about to take it to the dealer for the first time, I've wrote down several notes from the help of this website. If I don't get any results I will definitely be calling GM.

Same prob here, folks, w/ the used 05 Nox I just bought. At 2000 engine rpm, works fine. At <2000 rpm or at idle, a/c goes warm. That means weak compressor. Those of you that have had the compressor replaced- did that cure the problem?

Typical warranty on this work is 12 mos/ 12K miles.

thx

My wife and I have an 05 NOX with the same issue as described by Jeff in Atlanta, warm air at idle/cold air when driving. Joe described above that replacing the compressor would resolve this, has anyone tried that and had successful results?? I don't want to spend $400 on a compressor to find it didn't fix the issue.

Many thanks!!

They put in an expansion valve first but it did not change, so they replaced the compressor. Just got it back today and so far its working great.
3 Hours labor $300.
Valve kit $167.
Compressor $460.
TOTAL $930.):
Still cheaper than a new car, Sales tax, dealer fees, so on...
1 YEAR update still working great currently 90+ Deg outside today

I have a 2005 Equinox that we bought new. Noticed the a/c problem about 2 years ago. Had the freon done, next day same problem. It blows cold as long as you are moving as soon as you take your foot off the gas here comes the heat. I will be calling the 800# tommorrow and wait to hear how they haven't heard of this problem.
