Just had mine diagnosed. It was leaking at the compressor. Quoted $830 to replace compressor. Also told I may have to replace the expansion valve. Was quoted over $300 to do this. I don't have the money to do this. So my wife who feels like crap because she is on cancer treatment gets to suffer even more in this heat. Shame on you GM for this shoddy product.

We have a 2007 Equinox: After about three hours of highway driving, the A/C goes warm: We shut the compressor (Hit the A/C button to turn A/C off) for about 15-minutes, and it seems to cool off again. This is a big problem on long trips!

I have a 2005 Equinox and the AC is doing as described by others. I changed the cabin air filter did not help. I checked the AC low side pressure which is wihin the pressure range. I think the coolent fans are at fault. They run at low speed all the time. I have checked all the associated fuses and swaped relays. I also jumped across the high speed relay terminals and the fans ran on high. Does anyone know of a solution for this?

Just an update, AC is still blowing cold and have had no problems with the SUV. I am happy with it so far. I would say to those with AC problems to have the Fan Motors checked.

When I say Fan Motors, I mean the two large fans that are positioned in the front of the engine, they are responsible for cooling the engine when it's not moving. That was the problem with my car. Although they are not directly part of the AC system without them blowing the AC won't work properly.

May I ask what you eventually found out about this problem with your Equinox? Mine is doing the same thing now.

Wow, seems like these Equinox's are A/C lemons. I am having the same problem as many of you. I have a used 2005, 46,000 miles, and it blows hot air when I sit at a light. When I hit the gas it gets cold but takes an long time to cool the car if it is really hot out. I live in Fl. Yikes! I'm in the process of trying to get it fixed. Hope it helps.

No, but not needed. Information on line with part description is enough. System must be evacuated Then remove two bolts on the back of the compressor which hold a metal plate. With the plate removed the valve pops out and put the new one in. DO NOT REMOVE COMPRESSOR. 10 minute job after evacuation.. Looking under the hood, compressor on your left hand side, you can see the two bolts on the back of compressor (right hand side of compressor as you look from front of car).

On www.techchoiceparts.com search for part 115214 (the compressor) and the picture clearly shows the metal plate and the two bolts on the right side of the picture (back of compressor). The part to purchase is number V001.

I had a local mechanic change it for me because of evacuating and recharging. Total cost part $30 plus shipping, mechanic one hour labor plus freon. Less than $150 total.

Another person posted to the other thread used this fix last weekend and solved his problem.

Well, I hav 2012 equinox and the air works fine....IN THE FRONT! The problem is that this is a horrible design. The air vents are only in the front so it stays wayyy to hot in the back seat for a 1 and 2 yr old!! I have to put it on freezing and blast off to get it to cool them and then i am freezing to death because the vents have limited rotation and therefor they are always hitting the front two passengers. I just have to endure it so they stay comfortable. I have even put a thermometer in the back to see what it cools to and if i have the fan on anything less than high, its about 80 in the backseat. rediculous since i paid nearly 30,000 for this thing!!!!!

I have a '07 Equinox that have around 115,000 miles on it and have had no problems with it until about a month ago. The a/c switches from low to high constantly and then the a/c will just go off. I think car manufacturers has a chip in cars that tells them to start breaking down once the warranty runs out. My husband says the fans are not running either so I dont know how the car isnt constantly running hot. I am scared to go anywhre in it, and dont have the money to take it to be repaired and I dont think we should when it seems to be a defect in the car.

We just bought a 2012 Equinox and I hate it,I am a large man and I have problems getting in the front passenger seat, can it be adjusted. It sets to high and gives no head room. The air is so loud that that you cannot hold a conversation with any one in the car or hear the radio.

I have a fix for this one. My dad figured it out. GM changed the design before the 08 model. Have your service guy put an "L" hose on the A/C condensation outlet making sure the condensation outlet does NOT face the front of the car. What happens is that the air at high speeds prevents the condensation from escaping and thus prevents the system from removing heat from the system.

Okay - so I've posted on here for the past couple of years regarding the AC issues I'm having with my '06 Equinox. I finally broke down and took it back to the dealer yesterday as I just can't go another Florida summer with intermittent air. I think a really good AC guy finally found the problem. Here is what my service invoice reads:
"PCM losing AC request from BCM. Determined evaporator temperature sensor voltage very erratic, causing BCM to turn off AC request to PCM. Replaced AC evaporator temperature sensor and checked operations. Continuous request for AC at PCM and AC is blowing."
MY AC IS NOW BLOWING COLD AIR CONSISTENTLY! The part was $43.00 - labor $90.00. I'm hoping this fixes the problem for good and there are no other issues.
Hope this helps those of you out there that are having AC issues as well.
. Thank you for your help will try this

FIXED!! I have an 05 Equinox with the AC issue where it only blows cold when driving (or sitting still with RPM's up to 1,800 or so). I thought maybe it was the engine fans not blowing hard enough but that wasn't the problem at all. I just changed the small valve assembly on the back today and that fixed the problem. AC was blowing around 70 at idle, now it blows mid 40's at idle.
Here is a link to the part:

Thank you so much to the previous posters who identified this as the fix!!

I just bought my 2008 Equinox a month ago. The a/c keeps cutting in and out. The blower will go high then low by itself. Also my rpm's are reving up and down between 3/4 and 1 rpm. It keeps going from cool to warm no matter whether you are driving or idling.
