I also have a 2006 equinox. I am told by my local chevy dealer that this is becoming a growing problem and does need to be recalled. The trouble is everyone is posting their complaints on forums such as this and not with the Chevy corporation. I know i reported mine but everyone needs to do this. Once they get so many complaints, the government steps in and will force the recall. Please, help yourself and many others and take this matter one step further and going directly to Chevy with this major, not to mention, expensive repair! Mine was completely covered under GM warranty so, I paid nothing.

Call GM at 1-866-790-5700. As long as its not after 2016 and your mileage is under 120,000 your vehicle my be covered under the special policy coverage. I called and my vehicle is covered. Have your VIN and a local GM dealership that you want to do the work when you call, I spent 45 minutes on the phone but they will pay the $1200.00 mechanical bill!!!!

Blowing cold air since the summer on my 2006 Equinox..now its November and COLD ..not happy with what the cost might be to fix. I agree should be a recall issue as safety is an issue when you cant see out the windshield due to COLD and ICE.

Heather, as of May 30, 2012, there is a TSB (Service Bulletin) and accompanying warranty extension (10 years/120,000 miles/193,000 km) which obligates GM to repair the temperature door / blend door at no cost to the owner.

Here are the TSB and Owner Letter:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/165625663/Gm-Tsb-Sb ...
http://www.scribd.com/doc/165625806/Gm-Sb-111 ...

Print these out and take them with you. I have uploaded the documents to Scribd (I paid $26.00 for a subscription to Alldatadiy.com so I could access these) so that anyone can read them, free of charge, which is how it OUGHT to be.

If you need any service manual info or have any questions about getting this repair done for free you can message me at jessehclark@gmail.com and I would be happy to help.

polly, the thermostat and radiator flush are likely not the problem unless your engine is overheating.(this would mean that the thermostat was not opening, and therefore not circulating coolant, causing the engine to overheat while the coolant stayed cold and therefore you also get no heat inside).

Your problem is likely covered by the TSB. please read the last few posts in the thread.

What a money pit :-(
I have the same problem. Had a coolant leak, that cost big bucks. Next, just had the A/C replaced for over $900, now this. What a piece of crap GM has sold us. Not safe to drive in cold weather or to go anywhere if it is going to get down to freezing anywhere any time during the trip. Where is a consumer protection agency when we need it?

I have a 2006 Equinox and I am now having the same problem with the heat blowing cold air and the defrost has went out also. I am so upset at GM because they should have just recalled this vehicle because it is really unsafe to drive. My car is not even 10 years old and having these type of problems what a piece of crap.

Camille, please read through the last few posts. There is a service bulletin which extends the warranty and repairs the problem for free.

I also have an 06 Equinox that blows cold air. I have had the heater coil replaced, and for the first 3 months afterwards, heat was fine. Had to pay out of pocket for this repair, very costly. Have replaced the thermostats twice, and go figure...still cold air. After paying for the heater coils to be replaced, and still no heat, I'm afraid to take it back in for further diagnosis and repairs. This is total insane!!! GM, you really dropped the ball on this one. No wonder my friends only buy foreign. So much for trying to stick with products "Made in America".
