Regarding the 2006 Equinox heater not working problem (blend door defect)...GM designed a repair procedure and implemented a special campaign on 30-May-12 to provide dealers with repair instructions. GM also provided special coverage adjustment so that repairs can be made at no charge to the customer (for 10 years or 193,000 km from vehicle’s in-service date). GM’s reference number for this campaign is number 11135.
I hope this information will be of assistance to you. Please contact your nearest dealer to make arrangements for the repair of your vehicle. If you have already had this vehicle repaired elsewhere, GM has also provided a means to reimburse such costs.
Hope this helps all of you, my car is over the 193000, so I'm having to take a different approach. Areas I am looking at are Sale of Goods Act, Consumer Protection and GMs own promises, commitments to customers etc from their own wep sites.
Go to your dealer!!! they are repairing my Equinox at no charge. Do not go to a local mechanic as they do not even know this.
GREAT POST MICKI!!!

Same problem with mine. It was working fine this morning, now at 10 pm its not. My brother and I do most of our own work. We're going to look at it tomorrow and figure it out. Was the $65 part from a dealer or an auto parts store?

Just took my 2006 equinox in. Same issue with access door. Must be GM heard everyone, they fixed it no charge and I don't have an extended warranty. Now if you wanted to talk about front bearing going out multiple times I'd jump on band wagon to complain...but the heat issue in now solved.

I have a 2006 Equinox bought brand new my heat blows cold air. The part is cheap but the labor is expensive because they say the piece is broken on the Blend door. I will never purchase a Chevy again to many problems with expensive labor. I will be calling GM customer service to see about this.

I have an 06 Equinox with the same problem. The actuator is out of calibration and the blend door is broken. They said they had to strip my car down to the firewall to fix it. I luckily got a GMAC extended warranty and this repair is covered. The service guy said it would be a $1,000 repair if I didn't have the warranty. God, I hope they put it back together correctly.
I Called GM and told them about it and they wouldn't consider fixing my truck at all since I have over 100 thousand miles. to much money never buying a Chevy again.

I have a 2006 Torrent, and my advise is dont waste your hard earned money, these cars are money pits, at 100,000 miles you will start hearing a klunking noise in the rear of the car, those are your suspension Knuckles, they are $600 each plus installation, because you cant buy the $6 bushing to fix it.....

Think hard before throwing more money into the pit.

Good luck

I have an 06 equinox with the broken actuator door. Noone figured out the problem. If I sit with my car running the heat will come on but the minute I start driving the heat goes away. I had everything check and the thermastat is brand new. I hate this car. It sux balls. It all started once I hit 50000 miles. So not a good purchase. I have gone 3 winters with no heat. It sucks. I am almost done saving up the money to have the work done. So hopefully by spring ill have heat.

This poster is correct. As of May 30, 2012, there is a TSB (Service Bulletin) and accompanying warranty extension (10 years/120,000 miles/193,000 km) which obligates GM to repair the temperature door / blend door at no cost to the owner. If you an owner that paid for this repair, even in part, you need to submit a claim ASAP to GM requesting reimbursement. The TSB says that claims seeking reimbursement must be made by June 30, 2013, but I suspect there is a way around that. For example, if you bought the car after that date, how could you have known? If you had the repair done after May 30, 2012, the dealership should not have charged you. And if you never received the letter, they ought to honor your claim.

As a side note, be careful; they are tricky. I called both a dealership and GM's customer service, explained the problem I was having, and asked if there were any recalls, service bulletins, or warranty extensions (before I found the tsb). I was told no, and that I would have to pay for $100 diagnostic, then submit the estimate to GM for consideration! I have a feeling they didn't even check.

Here are the TSB and Owner Letter:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/165625663/Gm-Tsb-Sb...
http://www.scribd.com/doc/165625806/Gm-Sb-111...

So, I have uploaded the documents to Scribd (I paid $26.00 for a subscription to Alldatadiy.com so I could access these) so that anyone can read them, free of charge, which is how it OUGHT to be. If this information helped you, and you would like to help me recover some of the cost of obtaining the report, the time it took to do this research, and help me fix up this 2006 Torrent for my girlfriend, go here https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... to send me a Paypal donation. The default amount is $1, but you send however much or however little you would like. Hell, send me nothing, I'm doing this because I hate seeing people getting screwed!

Also, anyone seeking any service manual info can message me at jessehclark@gmail.com and I would be happy to help as I have that, too.
