Definately a safety issues our went in the middle of a drive in the snow. We had no heat to keep windows defrosted, and they started to fog up. We put the seat heat on to keep it from getting any worse. We just bought the vehicle 3 mnths ago, and now are going to have to take the dashboard apart to fix a $22 dollar part?????? This is not right. What if we were stuck in a storm and this had happened.

I have the same problem. It's the actuator door. And it is a common problem with the 2006 Equinox. I complained to GM and they will give me ten percent of the one thousand dollars it will cost me to fix it. I also made a complaint to NHTSA...National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. This is a serious safety hazard. But after having been a GM owner for my whole life, and my father retired from GM...this will be the last GM product I will own. Shame on General Motors for not recalling this vehicle. They acknowlege the recall for the 2010...just not the 2006.
If you are having issues complain to NHTSA. It's an easy form to fill out.

Same goes here, 06 Pontiac Torrent.
Thank god for unusual 50 degree days in January to get started on the tear down. Waiting on GM for a recall isn't an option, will just live, learn, & buy accordingly.
Total dash removal is required but doable & complete.
Will get parts(accuator & blend door) tomarrow & start the rebuild process.
Whats the odds, they won't stock these parts?
You would think the dealerships would order these in bulk. LOL
There was a day when products were tested & proven prior to being mass prouced.
Today we are all crash/test dummies @ our own expense.

I have a 06 Chevrolet Equinox and I had the same problem with the heater blowing cold air also having trouble starting the Equinox. I bought the SUV from Honda of Abilene and had a 2 month warranty and every time I took it in they couldn't find anything wrong. After the warranty run out they found all kinds of things wrong but I took it to The Chevrolet Place to get it fix and I am still having trouble with it starting and it cost alot for the repairs.

Exactly, its just the model of the car; Chevy no good. I got a 07 with 70k miles and heater just went out too. From what i read, i cant believed they are going to take the dash out. Kinda off bs.

just got back from GM dealership with the same problem 06 Equniox blows cold air, problem Air Temp / Blend Door cost 1300.00 dollars. GM Should Do Something. Nothing worse than getting shafted by a poor design that should be under recall by GM. Got me this time but want be a next time with GM.

Add yet another 2006 Equinox to the ever growing list fir the heater issue. We purchased this vehicle with 68k miles on it. The day after we got the car home the heat stopped working. Called the dealer and they asked us to drop it off at the shop which we did that night. The next day they called to give an update and my boyfriend told them what it could be. Now after 3 days of them having the vehicle they still keep saying they don't know what's wrong with it. My bet it's the same thing as all the others. I can't believe that GM wouldn't think that this is a safety issue. Excuse me if I'm wrong but driving in wintertime weather without the ability to melt the accumulation on your windshield is certainly a safety issue.

I have a 2006 Equinox. Bought it brand new in 2006. It has been a piece of junk since I bought it. Heat does not work. Blows cold air. Had all kinds of other problems. Never going to buy nother GM product. In fact, never going near a GM dealer. Will junk this Equinox after the summer. Never going to apend a single on repairs again on this Equinox.

My 06 is doing the same.
Check the in going and out going coolant hose from the engine compartment. Both were warm, so I know the is flow to the heater core.

Anyway, it only blows cold air. I can't hear any damper movement.

Not only may the actual air blender door (damper) may be broken, the actuator (motor) may be an issue as well. If it overtravels the blender door could break. It's all plastic.
