Oil Catch Can...worth it on Ecotec Equinox?

Just bought a 2010 Equinox 4cyl. I was snooping around the net to find tips and tricks about my new vehicle. While on YouTube saw how to change the oil filter on this beast. Another thing that caught my eye was a oil catch can. What I have been reading is it is used primarily on turbo and high HP engines to catch gases before they gum up the intake. Does help ina couple of departments but mainly keeps the intake plumbing cleaner.
I put this to the masses. Is it of any value to add one of these on a Joe Public everyday vehicle?
Since the new Ecotec engines are DI, with a high compression ratio it kinda makes sense, in my mind anyway.
Secondly, how do they behave in cold weather. It gets cold in my neck of the woods in winter.
