Anyone else with this kind of problem?
Bought used Equinox Nov 2010. Water under front driver side. Little did we know (nor did the dealership check nor would GM admit defect). I stayed at the place we purchased from a until I got answers. there is a "consumer problem bulletin" complaint out on 2007 Chevy Equinox - customrs complaining about mold type smell. Dealership noticed about 1" of waterin spare wheel well. Once we started investigating at home by pulling up the carpet we found the vehicle was not sealed. AND ITS NOT A DEFECT! take out all your carpet and pad, have someone sit in the vehicle and place a running water hose on top of the vehicle, let it run down the windshield - Guess what - flood came through the car. GM was very tentative but the results get a 0.

does anybody not have problems with the equinox and like it ????????
nope!!! We had the leak and mold problems...solved by drilling a hole in the wheel well. The key stuck in the ignition and wouldn't come out....mechanic charged me a fortune and ended up replacing the whole key unit because they could not find a problem. Now the car is overheating whenever it idles, like waiting in McDonald's drive through line. Don't know how much this onewill cost me! We will never buy another equinox and probably no more Chevy's

like many of you my car has water in it. i have a GMPP warranty that still has coverage. does anyone know if the seals discussed are covered under this warranty? if not I will be paying out of pocket and it sounds like the problem comes back a lot.

I have a '06 equinox that leaks.

I have removed one of the little things in the spare tire well so that it drains...BUT it also seems that we have a major leak in the Front of the car. After every rain (and we've had 13 inches in MD this month alone) we come out to standing water in the car (enough so that when we open the door, it actually pours out over the door frame.

It takes days of dry time using massive quantities of sham-wows and febreeze to fight the smell--IF we have a sunny day to open the windows to vent the car.

We checked the two drain holes for the sunroof--and they are clear. We are at wit's end. Where else can the water be coming in from?

I would appreciate any help or suggestions. I don't know what to do--can't afford to buy another car right now--and still owe two years on this one.

Thanks.

I would show up with it at the dealer when it's full of water....also check the post from dagwood regarding the GM bulletin on this vehicle. We did get ours resealed at the dealer, but now the car is at college, and I haven't been in it to see if it's okay. My daughter keeps saying it's fine, but she has no sense of smell to know. Your car sounds extreme :(( I am so sorry, for all of the people who have these trucks...never again!! And I am a GM supporter from many years, but this was a huge goof on their part. If you read the bulletin, you will see the truck has potential leaking issues everywhere, front to back. Good luck!

Good news~since the dealer sealed the back of the truck, no more water, no more smell. If anyone is having this issue, I strongly suggest you print off the report showing the potential leak spots and show up with it at your local dealership. Still would not purchase again...

I had this problem but in the back of the car where the spare tire is. Water ended up coming into my back seat. Turns out that an extra hole was drilled that wasn't supposed to be and they had to seal it.

I have a 2007 Chevy Equinox and within the past 2 months I have started having major problems... when I go to start the car and turn the key, the car acts like it is going to start and starts to vigorously shake and stalls. Needless to say, I have already had to get it towed and rely on many friends to come and bail me out. 1st time in they said that the battery had fried, so I got a new battery. 2nd time in, they said that the mass air flow sensor shorted and I had to get a new one. 3RD TIME IN, the dealership said, we really don't know what is going on or how to fix this, so they replaced the fuel pump. Couple of days later, still having the same issue. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have had this problem and I didnt figure it out until all of the floor was soaked. I dont know where the leak is but it is leaking into the spare tire wheel well. And then as driving the water is splashing around or going down a hill it comes forward and therefore comes out from under the rear seats and makes its way to the front. There is no problem with the door seals because the origination is the spare tire well.

Just recently realized that I too have a leak somewhere in my 07 Equinox- found water 2 days ago on the floor in the back seat, and at the dealership today, about 6 in of water in the spare tire wheel well under the trunk!
Service Manager told me that they will need to take out all the carpets and the leak will either be a loose connection in one of the drainage tubes from the sunroof or from the rear bumper where "sealed".

Has anyone with a similar problem managed to get any of the cost of this covered- either entirely or in part?

Oh, by the way, forgot to mention that for about 1 month now I have had a cough, doctor says it is allergy or asthma related, symptoms include itchy eyes, cough, sore throat, post nasal drip- all these symptoms appear in an article about health dangers due to mold exposure- just wondering if this originated from the mold possibly growing (undetected for who knows how long?)under the rugs in my back seat and trunk...

Anyone else have this problem? I had a chest xray today and am waiting for an app't with an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist.

Hi, we did not have to pay, when ours was fixed, the dealer covered it. It was a bad seal, and yes, my daughter was sick the entire time we owned the car. Since the seal was fixed, the car has been dry. We will be checking again now that it's winter here, and the car sits outside. She is doing better, but I am still very wary of the car leaking again :( Good luck!!

We have had our 2007 Equinox since 12/06. We live in Florida and have been in a drought all year. The tropical storm this weekend was the first real rain (and there was not much wind) we have had has since got the car. I looked in the trunk this afternoon to check on the spare and there was a good 6 inches of standing water. We will be taking the car to the dealer tomorrow. Looks like this is not an un-common occurence.
I will re-post with what the dealer says.
