I'm having the same problem. I had to have the ignition cylinder replaced $590 later. Within a week I was back again with the same problem; and they blame me! I'll never buy another gm.
We had our cylinder replaced too and guess what a month later my key's gotten stuck 3 times. The dealership says they can't reproduce the problem so they can't fix it. Going back in tonight and demanding something be done I can't wait for my car to reproduce something in business hours.

If anyone has power steering issue it is almost definitely the 80 AMP megafuse. It is located under the hood in the fuse box. The mega fuse looks more like a relay. Some people when jumping or boosting confuse fuse panel terminal with battery that can cause this megafuse to malfunction. Found this on the internet when my wife's went out. Easy and cheap fix except I think you have to order the $15 part from a chevy dealer.
I just wanted to say Thank you for posting this, I expierenced the "confusion" with my equinox and by reading your article you saved me $100s of dollars...

I have the same problem with my chevy equinox 2005. The car key won't turn all the way. I have to jiggle it and turn the steering for 10 minutes. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This is so ridiculous. i have to fight with my car key for 10 or sometime 30 to 45 minutes just to start it. My fingers are sore from doing this. Is it possible if I can have someone install automatic starter for my ignition.

I have the same problem with my 2006 Equinox. Has been in the shop three times..and is doing it again. I just now called the salesman we bought it from and he said that GM has had a lot of problems with this. He's going to do some checking and get back with me. WHEN I get a solution, I will post again. I say when because I am not going to stop until I get the problem fixed. Other than the igniton problem, I haven't had any problems at all with mine.
I have had no major problems with my 2005 Equinox except for the ignition. I have bought 3 keys and had the ignition cleaned ad greased. I still have the same issue but the car has 210,000 mile and runs great.

I just read the post about the megafuse......I've never been successful at jumping another car, or mine, although I've tried numerous times to jump others. I've always put the positive cable on the post that is right next to the fuse box.......is this NOT the battery post???? Have I possibly caused all the electrical problems with my car by trying to boost from a post that is not connected to my battery, but my fuse box? Can anyone help? I'm a single mom with NO mechanic friends and practically NO money. ANY SUGGESTIONS AT ALL WOULD BE SUCH A BLESSING!

I'm having an issue with my 2007 Chevy Equinox where all the gauges are jumping up and down like when I turn the car on and the power locks keep locking and unlocking. We've tried taking the battery out the key remote and have gotten the alternator, battery, and engine checked out by Advanced Auto. It's running perfectly fine except for that and I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem or could give any advice. We're driving home now from the beach.

Same story as many others ... my 2006 equinox has the ignition stuck...can't get the car started half the time where key won't turn. This should have been a recall....what part is needed to fix it and are there any support/instructions out there? I'm on disability and pretty much don't have the funds for the mechanic to fix it.

You are jumping it from the wrong spot. I have done this many times before realizing the underlying problem. There is an actual batter under a black plastic casing and then there is a smaller area that looks like a battery that shows battery volt signs. If you take the casing off and jump from the actual battery you should be fine. If you jump from the thing that looks a little like a mini battery you will without a doubt blow the power steering fuse.

I have owned a 2005 Equinox since May of 2004 - biggest piece of crap that I have ever owned.
I have replaced the following items in the 75K miles I have owned it: AC Compressor, head gaskets, thermostat, spark plugs and wires, both front door harnesses, 3 window motors, both rear trailing arms, both rear coil springs, both front struts, both front control arms, front sway arm end links (twice!) rear sway bar links, serpentine belt (have to unbolt the engine mounts in order to do that), headlight bulbs (5 times already!), it eats tires and front brakes & rotors like crazy (5 times for both), when the battery died, it ruined the 6 disc CD player, the rear carrier bearing seized up, the rear hatch struts failed, had to clean the throttle body 3 times so far, the coolant overflow canister was replaced twice, the front door checks were replaced twice, water pump replaced, thermostat, the coolant had to be flushed FOUR TIMES, I finally gave up on Dexcool and put the green stuff in, the ignition switch is slowly chewing up the ignition keys, the roof rack can no longer be adjusted fore and aft, water leaks into the headlights every time it rains, the steering shudders every time you have to turn it sharply, the delay on the wipers is extremely annoying & is practically in-adjustable, the rearward view is non-existent, the horn is practically inaudible to anyone outside of the vehicle, the seats had to be covered because they stain too easily and cannot possibly be cleaned, the steering column will need repaired soon, all of the coolant hoses were replaced TWICE, the $500.00 rear view mirror broke and cannot be repaired (only replaced), the transmission has five forward gears but can never seem to find the right gear to climb a steep hill, and I'm sure I've missed several other things. If I keep this car much longer, I imagine that every major part on it will be replaced.
Oh, and by the way, equinoxcentral.com appears to have been removed from the internet. It was a GM sponsored website designed to promote the vehicle, but turned into a complaint forum in the end because of the numerous problems the vehicle has had that GM isn't interested (or even capable) of addressing.
Because of this vehicle, I will never EVER purchase a GM vehicle again.

I wish mine would catch fire! I've owned my 2007 Equinox for a year and a half and had issues with spark plugs, coil, wires; carpet, door leaks, crummy upholstery; brakes, rotors rusting, eating through tires; windows popping out of track with no mechanical issues. And the latest. While attempting to fix the window (regulator isn't broken but window doesn't function properly) I left my keys in the car. Batter died so we attempted to jump it off. Placed cables near fuse box. Killed 80 watt fuse. At first, just the power steering went out. The next time we tried to move the car into the garage it would not accelerate. We replaced 80 watt mega fuse, which fixed the power steering issue, but the car will not go more than a few feet even when floored. Seems like transmission, but what are the chances of it going out while parked in the drive-way for a day while waiting on fuse replacement to come in???

My 2008 Equinox has been a big disappointment. Have to constantly jumpstart it, and sometimes the tow truck driver does it incorrectly, which blows the 80 amp fuse, which then causes car to immediately lose power steering!! Fuse replacement, from dealer, since GM won't allow any other auto parts stores to carry it, is $80.00!! Also, keep finding spare tire area full of gallons of water, within a week of purchasing it brand new, cd's would not eject from player, they replaced entire stereo, within two days, it was doing the same thing! Service stabilitrak and service traction control light constantly comes on, then off, then on again, can't drive with rear windows down, unless front windows are also open or the sound is unbearable, driver window motor died and that cost me $650 to replace, sometimes I am locked in the car and can't get out, radio volume intermittently goes up and down, constantly replacing headlights, one is fogged and full of water, the car is a nightmare! At 45 years old, it was the first brand new car I purchased, I was so proud of it, now I am stuck with it, constantly spending a fortune on trying to repair it. I will never purchase another Chevy!!!

I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox with ~110000 miles on it. I love the SUV or haved loved it even though I suffered water getting inside of the floor panel and not knowing how to get rid of it for some time. Now the Reduced Power Engine light is on and the SUV will not move forward. It's been on for three days now. I immediately called GM and they are willing to have it towed to the nearest Chevy dealer. That's thoughtful of them but who will pay for this. The vehicle is out of it's warranty for sure and I don't want to take it to the dealer and be shocked by a high price that I can not afford. As I have been reading post from various sites. It seems that this line of vehicle has a serious problem. Though I love my SUV, I can't help to wonder how can this not be a problem from the manufacture, why hasn't this vehicle been RECALLED? The person from GM who has helped me has been wonderful. I just don't think that something out of the blue should be my fault when everyone seems to be going through it. I take care of my vehicle and have it serviced on a regular, but now this happens and it seems to be common. I've ben told that it can be a number of issues from the back brakes to the transmission. I just do not want to have to pay a huge amount of money to have it fixed when it seems that Chevy needs to seriously look into this and fix it or recall this vehicle. It is a safety issue. Thankfully, i was at home and not in busy traffic as I live in a large city with heavy traffic and I use the freeway often to have the vehicle just stop or slow down like others say theirs has done could be really dangerous. If someone is reading this who can honestly help solve this problem. Please respond. Thanks.

We just bought a 2008 Equinox ran great for 2 weeks, I fueled it and the next day notice a miss that quickly got worse. We have emptied the tank refilled with primium gas and treatments 2 times. No better but no worse. I some times does it at an Idle but not always, it sometimes does it between 48 and 52mph with slight pull. But it does do it everyday. No check engine light come on usless you make it stay at the missfire speed 20 sec. then it will come on flash till the missfire stops and go off. I am at a loss and cant spent alot of money tracking this do. Any ideas please
I think your problem is in the ignition supply / spark plugs and spark plug wires.
A Chevrolet Dealer or reputable repair centre should be able to diagnose this for very little cost.
Also, this type of failure should be covered under warranty.
Check it out. Hope this fixes your problem.

The Tumbler is bad have no idea how much it cost had mines replaced under warranty. My key wouldn't turn my truck had about 3000 miles on it when it happened. Dealer is going to be to expensive.
