I came here for the same issue, key stuck in my mom's 2007 Equinox. I took the advice, but none of it worked. I shifted back and forth like a madwoman, and lo and behold, a dime was stuck in the gearshift! I took it out, put it in Park and the key popped right out.

Beware of spare change! Hopefully for some of you, the fix is that easy.

Please tell me where you took your vehicle to get it fixed. I am having the EXACT same issue with my equinox since August been to dealer 4 times and they have replaced the steering column, the tumbler, and housing. Still having same issue and they can't seem to fix it. Each time I take it back now it will not stick at dealer, but as soon as I leave my husband and I have problems. I want this fixed now.

I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox and love it with the exception of a few problems, most have been resolved but last week I noticed a hose hanging under my car, it's by the left front tire, approx 12-16ins long. Can't afford to take it in at the moment since I've had to take it in a few other times for other problems. Anybody have any idea what that hose might be. I was initially thinking air conditioning hose but then thought I remembered seeing water drain or puddle on the right side of the car in the past.

Are there enough people with an Equinox 2007 who are interested infixing a class action suit to get this resolved by GM?

Wow, so many of the same problems...bought my equinox from a used car lot back in the summer. the key stuck after i took it for a test drive but the salesman assured me he would fix it...whatever they did worked for a about 2 mths now it is sticking like crazy and driving me crazy!
i've had a mechanic try a couple of different things with no luck.
From what I'm reading, it looks the trouble lies in the shifter? has anyone who has had the shifter replaced been trouble free since?

Neither of my 2 aux. power ports have ever worked either...hoping thats just a fuse.

I'd love to hear from people who have had a fix for the key sticking...thanks

<quoted text> As per Chevy. If the car does not see enough voltage in the battery, it will not allow the key to be released. Next time try attaching jumper cables to another car and see if the key comes out.
This does not work either.

My 2007 Equinox key is not only stuck but it is stuck in the position that keeps my radio, clock and lights on. The shifter button is stuck also, so I think it is not recognizing that the car is in park therefor not allowing the key to even be in the locked/off position. The shifter assembly at the local Chevy dealership is 200!!! and thats just PARTS! I dont understand how there can be so many problems but unless I have a warranty I'm screwed. Its bull shit! I've already put so much into this stupid car w/ spark plugs (that are "supposed" to last 100,000 miles) and sensors. I've had to put more money into this car than I did with any of the CASH cars I bought before! NO MORE CHEVYS FOR ME!!!!!!
We took ours in for both, found out recall on plugs/sensors but only replace when they go bad,so they replaced the 1st one, a week later another is going......

I am having the same problem my power steering is locked, car will not even turn over and the key is locked in the ignition. No matter how much I turn the wheel back and forth it will not come out. Could this be because the battery is dead. Nothing is working locks windows. When I turn the key nothing turns on! Help please

It seems to me the car should at least turn on when you turn the key. It sounds like it could be your battery but I'm not really sure. Our key still does not always release right away. Once we turn the car off, if it doesn't come out, we will sit and wait a minute or so and then it will finally release. I hope you find out what is wrong.

We had the same problem with not being able to get our key out it wouldn't go beyond aux, our car would still start and everything we just couldn't get it to turn off of aux and get the key out. So we took it to the dealership the night after it got stuck for 30 minutes. They replaced our cylinder and guess what a month later my key's gotten stuck 3 times. On Monday the dealership says they can't reproduce the problem so they can't fix it. And what happens last night when the dealership is closed it was stuck. I'm going back in tonight and demanding something be done I can't wait for my car to reproduce something in business hours.

I'm having the same problem. I've tried some of the same things as the others posters and I've been lucky to get my key out pretty quickly. I've been the only owner and there's less than 80k miles on it. It's extremely frustrating and I believe GM should address this issue.

I am having the same problem it is so embarrassing when pulling up to park somewhere and having to keep starting the car to try to get the key to release properly. With all these complaints chevrolet should have a recall for this problem. We need to find a way to force chevrolet to address this problem for us by recalling the 2007 chevrolet equinox. I am going to complain hope you all do the same.

Our 2007 Chevy Equinox has been having problems with the key not being released after parking and turning the car off. After turning the ignition on and off a few times and jiggling the shift it will eventually come out. We are just worried it will eventually not come out at all. Is anyone familiar with this problem?
Thanks
I fought this same problem for two years with a dealership that tried everything and went above and beyond trying with no success. I finally said enough and sold it at their dealership and bought a Subaru Outback that I absolutely love. I pity the next owner who buys the Equinox with low miles and super clean. It was a really good car except you could not get the key out and the turning radius matched a truck. I do not miss the car and the Outback new gets better MPG than the equinox did....no regrets and no more frustration or waiting for the bomb to drop.

Hi There, You shouldn't have to keep starting the car off and on to get the key to release. If it does not release once it is in park and turned off, just leave it be and wait a few minutes and you should hear it click. You should then be able to remove the key. That is how it has been for us so far. I agree it is frustrating but have learned it will eventually release. It can take up to a few minutes. I hope this helps. We have been dealing with it now for sometime now. I do worry that one day it will not release, but prayfully that will not happen.

I have a 2005 Equinox and other than wheel bearings it's been a great car! When I pulled in the yard tonight I backed my trailer in and was on a hill. The shifter didn't want to go into park but I got it to go in. Then I couldn't pull the key out! It turned back almost all the way and stopped. The shifter was locked but the steering wheel wasn't. The key wouldn't move in either direction. After looking at this forum I took the three screws out of the steering column cover and unsnapped the top and bottom. There is a cable coming up from the shifter to the bottom of the key cylinder. It snaps in and has a zip tie holding it in. I cut the zip tie and used a screwdriver to pop the cable cover off. As soon as it was off I could turn the key and take it out. I'm not sure if you could leave it out and fix a chronic key issue, but the shifter will move with the key out. Since this was the first time we had a problem with it I put it back together, complete with new ziptie. Hopefully this helps either the mechanically inclined or let the dealership know what worked.

I had the same problem with the key being stuck when you turn the car off. Dealer replaced ignition twice but it still gets stuck half the time. I read that it has something to do with the gear shift and the system not thinking the shifter is in Park so it won't release the key. I started shifting into Pard slowly and keeping the button on the shifter fully depressed and this has reduced the frequency of the problem. If you hear a little click as you shift into park then the key will usually come out. The problem seems to be in the shifter, not the ignition. I am going to take my car back one more time to the dealer to see what he says.

I have been having the same issue with my 07 nox. I agree it's an issue with the shifter and the car not thinking it's in park and therefore won't release the key. I typically shake the shift knob a little and eventually the key comes out. I was hoping to find a permanent fix on here but does't look like anyone has had any luck :(

2007 equinox, ignition key sticks in steering column.
I let it sit for about 1 min and the key pops out. But that is no solution. What's the cause for it getting stuck?
