Our 2007 Chevy Equinox has been having problems with the key not being released after parking and turning the car off. After turning the ignition on and off a few times and jiggling the shift it will eventually come out. We are just worried it will eventually not come out at all. Is anyone familiar with this problem?
Thanks

Same here. Just bought an '08. Can't get the key out. My sister has a 2000 Chevy Trailblazer. Same problem she eventually had to have the console replaced when the key wouldn't come out at all. I hope this doesn't eventually happen to our equinox.

WHAT DID YOU DO TO GET THE KEY RELEASED? I"M HAVING THIS PROBLEM RIGHT NOW. THE CAR WON'T EVEN TURN OVER THE ENGINE. I'M WONDERING IF WE BOOST THE ENGINE, THEN IT WILL START AND I'LL HOPEFULLY GET THE KEY OUT!

It does it when it wants and in order to get it out we pretty much have to keep turning it on and then off again until it comes out. It is crazy. I pray it does not ever get stuck permanantly especially once we are out of warranty. We have had it in the shop and they coldn't get it to stick.

If you are having trouble with it, just take it back out of park and slam back into park. That will get the key out. I believe the linkage needs to be adjusted.

Having same problem with key for 6 months. Ignition replaced plus another mechanic tried to fix. Currently having to turn the wheel from side to side to make sure it is perfectly lined up, then slowly move the gears up slow into park while holding in the break and then wait a few seconds before trying ti get the key out. Don't want to put anymore money into it. How much is a shifter assembly? Afriad if I try and trade will take a big loss as soon as they try and get the key out.

As per Chevy. If the car does not see enough voltage in the battery, it will not allow the key to be released. Next time try attaching jumper cables to another car and see if the key comes out.

I have the same promble but I found out that there's a cap under the steer column. If you find it pop it off, now for the fun part look under the steer coumn in to the hole and try to find a white BUTTON WITH A SPRING.(OR WHATEVER THE COLOR MIGHT BE)
Try pushing the white BUTTON WITH THE SPRING (OR WHATEVER THE COLOR MIGHT BE)and your key should come right out. Now my other promble is trying to find out what it is called, yes I tryed Ignition switch, ect. but no go well hope this helps you to get your keys out of the ignition.

PS.Chevy wants there $$!! You have your voltage reader on your dash reader, if its under 12volts I may understand, but when I start or turn it off my truck it's 14volt or 13volt BUT NOT ALL OUR PROMBLES ARE THE SAME!!

Same issue with 2007 Pontiac Torrent. Stranded once with key not wanting to turn in the column but it would release to come out. Under warranty so they replaced the ignition assembly. Then in 6 mo. a new issue with the key not wanting to come out after turning off engine. After a slight clicking noise the key cam be released but it takes up to 3 min. Again, ignition assembly being replaced today. I never had an issue with a Ford Taurus I had for 12 years. Maybe GM products are not in my future.

Your car sounds like it is doing the same thing ours is doing. They just replaced the ignition piece that the key goes into, but the key is still not wanting to come out many of the times after turning the car off. We to have to wait for the slight clicking sound also, and then the key will be released. I just Pray it never gets stuck and doesn't want to come out at all. I do like my equinox a lot, except for a few problems, this being one of them.

I have had that problem with 3 different car over the years . Just take it to a locksmith and have it fixed . Why worry about it . Dodge carravan honda accord and toyota rav . I think the most expensive was $100 .

2007 Equinox- Last 6-8 months the key will not release from ignition. Dealership has had it twice. First time replaced the ignition - no change. Second time basically told me it was me and that I needed to make sure the steering wheel was perfectly aligned to release the key. Turning it off and on and shifting multiple times will release it finally. No resolution and now it is difficult to get the key in.
Engine light is now on steady.
Has anyone had any resolution to this? Sounds like a lot of us have the same issue.

My 2007 Equinox is doing the same thing. Just discovered that if I turn it off in neutral, then put it into park, the key came right out. Don't know if it will work every time, but hopefully it will help some of you.
Also experiencing similar AC problems as described above. I am curious to know if any of you have received a valid, definitive cure from the dealer.

My 2007 Equinox key is not only stuck but it is stuck in the position that keeps my radio, clock and lights on. The shifter button is stuck also, so I think it is not recognizing that the car is in park therefor not allowing the key to even be in the locked/off position. The shifter assembly at the local Chevy dealership is 200!!! and thats just PARTS! I dont understand how there can be so many problems but unless I have a warranty I'm screwed. Its bull shit! I've already put so much into this stupid car w/ spark plugs (that are "supposed" to last 100,000 miles) and sensors. I've had to put more money into this car than I did with any of the CASH cars I bought before! NO MORE CHEVYS FOR ME!!!!!!

I have to agree, I do not love my 2007 Equinox, but it is paid for...and of course, out of warranty. The first time I took it in, they replaced the key cylinder. That was about $186. It stuck the first time I killed the ignition. I took it back and they decided they had not tightened the shift lock cable so they did that and everything was OK for about a week. I had to take it back and this time they told me the cable needed replacing. They had to order one so I had to make another trip when the part came in. They replaced it at no charge, and I drove home, killed the engine, and the key stuck again. I called them, they offered me a loaner/rental car and asked me to bring my car back and leave it so they could figure out what was going on. I took it back on a Monday, they rented me a car from Enterprise, and kept my car to figure out the problem. They called me on Wednesday and said they replaced the shifter assembly (bad solenoid?)and that they really thought they had it fixed this time. Again, there was no charge. That was last week and so far everything is working. I feel lucky that this dealer has worked with me...it is not the dealer I bought the car from (that dealer went out of business)and I am hoping everything is OK. The car still leaks, vibrates, and sounds like a freight train on the highway, but I can at least get the key out of the ignition.

I am having the same problem my brakes are locked, car will not even turn over and the key is locked in the ignition. No matter how much I turn the wheel back and forth it will not come out. Could this be because the battery is dead. Nothing is working locks windows. When I turn the key nothing turns on! Help please.
