Great article! It's interesting to note that Honda assembles three times as many cars (47,055 vs.~15,000) per month with only 50% more employees (13,500 vs. 8,900)... that's not to say that Honda is more efficient, it's not, but that regardless of how much hype Japanese car makers like to make about "building" their cars in America, they can never employ as many Americans as American companies do because no Japanese car is "made" in America, they're only assembled here. P.S. That doesn't even include the 40,000 white collar positions GM has domestically, that Honda has in Japan.

There has been nothing wrong with Detroit except for a plethora of short attention spans.
Build a good car, a great platform, launch it, ignore it and neglect it until it dies.
Is this going to be the fate of the Cruze?
Give it 10 years. It should go exactly the way of the Saturn, the Pontiac and lots of other concepts that could have worked. The Neon was a smll car that could have saved Chrysler a lot of grief, but got dumped for lacke of managerial interest. When Detroit figures out the market goes in cycles, they'll prepare to be there for the buying public when the market moves through its cycles. If you don't have the product, you can't sell it!
