I have a 2005 Equinox and I love the vehicle and have been extremely happy with it, with one exception. After short trips (less than 5 mi.) the car has trouble starting. It has taken up to 15 tries to finally get it started. Of course I can't get it to duplicate the problem at the dealership. It now has 36,154 miles on it but I have been to the dealership, called roadside, and have a record and case number with customer care. I still love my vehicle, just wonder if any body else has had this problem. Up until recently no dealership would even look at it till I could duplicate it in front of their technician which is BS. However it should be going into the shop this week and someone will actually be looking at it. They seem to think it is a fuel pressure issue. Anyone else having similar concerns, or past experience with this??

I am not sure if it is the same thing, but I sometimes have problems where it seems like the starter...where it is dragging on trying to start. I have not pin pointed it to hot or cold, but more so when it is hot. I have noticed that when it starts sputtering when trying to start, if I give it a tiny bit of gas, it will start...so maybe it is something about fuel pressure? I have 17K on it (an '05) and am planning on taking it in.

Yes. I have an 05 Equinox. Since the beginning it has had this starting issue. It is very random. But it will turn and turn and turn but no start. Then after several tries it will finally start. Been in the sop at least 5 times. Of course they can never duplicate it. Then tey replaced the fuel pump fuse, which burned out a week later. They just replaced the entire fuel pump Tuesday and it is already up to it's old problems again. I am going to make them give me another vehicle. This is crap, I don't have time to be going to a dealership every week with the same damn problem! please somebody email me with some info to help! pwukasch@yahoo.com

On my 2005 Equinox I was driving at a school zone speed when I noticed I wasn't accelerating when pressing on the gas pedal.. the traction control also lit up during that time. I stopped on the roadside and turned off the ignition. I tried to start the car back but the engine would only crank up and not start totally. I had it towed to the nearest dealer, they said it was a fuel pump problem and a busted fuse. Car is 4 mos. past warranty with 34000 miles.. repair cost was $700.

These problems are covered in the collection of bulletins found.

This is a repost
I looked up most of these problems on All Data, a program that tells all about all pertaining with cars. If you could see the list of over 60 or so bulletins regarding this Equinox you'd laugh.
The problems you all talk about have bulletins telling the dealer what it takes to remedy the problems, if they won't then your customer service phone number in the back of your owners manual should be called.
I have been in the business for 32 years, starting at dealers, how does that saying go "been there done that"

Good Luck with your Equinox's, Yuk!

There's this bulletin and others pertaining to this problem.

This is part of the bulletin:
"Condition"

General Motors has decided to conduct a Voluntary Emission Recall involving certain 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, Uplander, Equinox, Classic, Silverado; GMC Sierra; Pontiac Sunfire, Grand Am, G6. Grand Prix, Montana SV6; Buick LaCrosse/Allure, Terraza; Saturn Relay; and 2006 Pontiac G6 model vehicles. The Powertrain/Engine Control Module (PCM/ECM) in these vehicles may have been manufactured with damaged internal IC chips, which may affect the Fuel Pump Control and EGR outputs of the PCM; or the Fuel Pump Control and Variable Nozzle Turbo Control (VNTC) outputs of the Diesel ECM. Customers may experience illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or driveability complaints.

Correction

Dealers are to replace the Powertrain/Engine Control Module (PCM / ECM).

We have just started having problems with it. We bought our 2005 in January of 2007 and 2 weeks ago I couldn't start my vehicle after a short ride to the mall. It started only after I touched the gas pedal a bit. We brought it in and they told us it was a carbon build up on the valves heads and it would cost us $120 to clean the valve heads off. I was shocked that we had to pay anything since we only had it for 10 months. They called GM and they were told it was "normal use of a vehicle"...ummmm I couldn't start the car!!! How is that normal use of a vehicle!!?? So after arguing the point, the dealership compromised and we paid $60 for something I had no control over. We printed this forum out and we're going back to argue the point even more now that we know others are also having problems.

Update:
We called GM and they are going to fix it free of charge after showing this printed forum to the dealership and they will return our $60 also. Thanks so much for this forum, it helped greatly!

I knew there was something wrong with this vehicle starting up. I purchased my 2005 Equinox in 2004. This problem has pretty much been ongoing, but has gotten out of control withn the last month. After seeing a pt for an hour, my car refused to start up. It continually "rolled over", but never turned on. i had the car towed to the dealership. Of course, as soon as it gets there that sucker starts. They almost didn't want to "admit" the car, but I forced them to at least take a look at it.

Anyways, got a call the next day, they said it was the ignition. They replaced it and I ATTEMPTED to pick it up the following day.

** THIS IS WHERE IT GOT SCARY-- PLEASE READ**
After leaving the cashier, I handed the keys to one of the service employees who bring the car. It was good the car was parked so close to where I was standing, that way I was able to see everything. As the employee was reversing the car out of the parking space, the car cut off dead in its tracks. He repeatedly tried to start it back up and NO SUCCESS. This is now a safety hazard. BEWARE!!!

I am arguing w/ GMCcorporation and the dealership to really take a good look at it before I drive it from the sevice dept. I am TRUELY scared. i don't want the car to cut off while I am driving. They, GMC corp. and the dealership, say that they are unable to dupluicate the problem, YES even though the problem occurred right on the dealership/service center lot. They say that problem has to be occurring while it is on the diagnostics machine, then had the nerves to say it is "safe" to pick up because they tried to duplicate the problem and have been unable to do so. I explained that the problem occurrs randomly. no resolution as of now. Will keep u posted. Email me w/ further insight/information on this prob. Use the name I used above @yahoo.com. Good luck!!!!

I own an 05 Equinox. Recently I noticed I was goinig thru a tank of gas every other day and the car was making a "funny" noise. I took it to my mechanic and he informed me I had a hole in the EGR pipe. When he ordered a replacement pipe he noticed it did not fit. After some research he learned there was a "technical bullitan" on the '05 and that during production GM changed the manufactior of the EGR system. The replacement kit was not considered a recall because it was not a safety issue, and it cost me near $500.00. I once loved my cute SUV but I will be trading it in soon!!

i, also own an 05 Equinox. the Last two months I was having trouble starting it. It was having trouble turning over. I bought the vehicle in Ford dealership with a warranty in California. i now leave in hawaii and the Fords over here would not take it. Saying that they had no accounts with the dealership in California. I ended up taking it to a Chevy dealership and they agreed to look at. the first time they called me after the diagnostic check they said that it was the EGR VALVE. They told me it was going to be $285 parts and labor plus $98 for the diagnostic check. I agreed. Then about two weeks later they called me and said they fixed it, but that it was going to be a total of $ 605 because they also had to replace the EGR PIPE. The PIPE apperently had been leaking. i have been asking many questions on many links and it seems the EGR system in the equinox is a big issue. Besides the EGR system it has been very good to me.

I have been having the same issues as everyone with the car not starting after five tries. Just had teh fuel injection system cleaned because of carbon build up and now i need a new fuel filter along with an EGR sensor. I had the EGR system replaced last june and my check engine light has been on ever since. Now I find out I need the EGR sensor and still the chevy dealer doesn't know why my car doesn't start sometimes. It seems to only happen when it's warm outside.

That is so weird.I have been having the same problem. It could be in the middle of the day and I am leaving the store and then it does not want to turn on. I can be there for several minutes then finally it starts. I turn the key as if I was turning it on and it seems like it is going to start but then it hesitates. It does seem like the starter. What I do when it does that,I push the gas at the same time. After I do that I starts. The dealership always says there is nothing wrong and their is not any recalls on the equinox. Now my warranty is over and I have to wait until they do come up with recall parts. If anyone has any news please e-mail @ amyacan2@yahoo.com I really don't want it to stop on me with my kids in the car.

I have had my NOX for 11 months and ever since taking it from the dealership I have had the same issue with it starting. the gave me an IOU when I signed for the car because they could not find the problem but would fix it if it continue to act up. I have had it in and out of the service shop and the starter has been replaced and I had to pay for the keys. It is now back in after shutting down while driving on the Interstate. It acted as though it was not getting any gas and then just died> I costed to a save spot and put the car in park. I tried to start it but it just kept doing what it always has done. Not START!!!!!
I have got nothing but the run around from the dealership.

Mike do you still have a copy of this, or post the link where you got it. I am having the exact same problems as all these people in the forum, but of course in canada, the recall has not been sent out.

I purchased my equinox from Carmax about 4 months ago, and I am having the same issues...not starting up. I took it back to carmax, and of course they couldn't find a problem. I took it to a chevy dealer just last week because it does it at least twice a week, and I have kids that I don't want to be out stranded with. I told them what I found on All Data, and guess what, they said they couldn't find anything wrong. What the Hell am I suppose to do. This is such crap!! I love my 05' Nox, but who wants to put up with this!

We too are having problems with it rolling and not starting... eventually it starts. I just heard my husband in the garage trying to start it --- it took 5 tries! An hour ago I had the same thing happen at the doctor's office!
