Hello everybody! I'm new to this group but I am glad I found IT.
I have a problem and I hope you guys can suggest a solution. I absolutely love cars and not to long ago I became a proud owner of a 1998 Corvette with automatic transmission.It had a leak right were transmission joins differential in the back but the mechanics and I thought that was coming from a a tube that looked like an overflow valve. So we left it alone. After driving the car for almost 2000 miles the transmission started to slip (thats how it sound and feels to me). The car drives normally in 1st and 2nd gear but it wouldn't shift to 3rd gear no matter how much I rev the engine. I took the car for a transmission oil change and when we remove the transmission oil pan I noticed some buildup on the magnet of the pan. There was only little (2 quarts maybe) oil in the pan.After the oil change the car shifted to 3rd gear a couple of times and than was back to the same as before. I suspect that the cluch pack must be fried. Please give me some input of what has happened. What parts might be damaged and some suggestions of replacement parts for those, but better quality than OEM. I would appreciate your wisdom in the matter. Thank You. |

Did you resolve this? I've just had this happen on my 1999 C5 and the dealer here in the UK said I needed a new transmission. They got one in from the USA and fitted it. I drove the car 300miles and it all started happening again. Same symptoms. |

Same. 2000 Corvette. Old tranny went bad, and the brand new tranny just went bad. I have no idea what caused it.

own a 04 vette coupe auto trans and out of the blue it seems to skip the midd gears and the rpm revs @ 5500 before shifting. What the heck is goin on i baby this car!

My 98 automatic with 150K, with no warning signs, just stopped accelerating and spewed tranmission fluid all over the back end of the car. My mechanic said it had a broken part inside that caused the case to break as well. Will be rebuilding the transmission and replacing the case with a used one....don't know the total cost yet....scary...i have babied this car its entire life. My last corvette served me for 20 years.
